We went there based on 4.5 stars on Google, on Sunday - without any booking - around 12 thinking it’s early and we should be fine to find a table. The lovely lady who I think was Italian greeted us and managed to find us a table. All was good until the food arrived. We had roast and my son had fish and chips. The chips was the most disgusting thing you would had in your life. Tasted like a fishy batter. My poor son had one and didn’t touch the rest of his food. The batter on the fish was soggy as well. As for our roast, the beef was over cooked and super chewy and the lamb was so dry you needed a lot of gravy. The potatoes were not that crispy either. I didn’t want to write a review because the lady who showed us to the table was so lovely, took our feedback onboard and got the food off the bill. So for that reason I gave her 4 stars for being super lovely and welcoming the feedback. I saw lots of people with pizzas so not sure if they have a great Italian chef who is amazing at pizzas but the roast wasn’t something I go back for. Such a shame as this is a lovely pub with nice people working there. Wish the food was matching...
Read moreWent to this pub after a football match close by and wanted to save cooking at home. Unfortunately it was not the Sunday Roast we expected. The Roast potatoes were barely roasted, huge and not fluffy at all, they had no crispy bits and looked and tasted awful, covered in gravy to “hide” them. I had the lamb and it was just a pile (very small one) of shreds not a clean slice on the plate, my wife had the rolled pork belly, was Ok but very fatty and because it was rolled is was un-rendered fat, so not that appetising, the veg that came on the plate with the roasts was tasty, but not overly seasoned. Cauliflower cheese was extra and was a large spoon of some rather than a little pan of our own clearly missed the salt the pepper in the kitchen. Our son had a pizza which was Ok, we shared 2 starters Squid and Croquettes, squid was 5 pre bought and coated rings, croquettes were tasty. We didn’t stay for dessert £100 for that was hard to swallow! Nice pub to be fair and atmosphere was Ok, I just feel they try to do too much with a large menu and none of it is good enough to give 5...
Read moreThis is a lovely pub with a glorious beer garden. The staff were friendly and attentive and the menu was full of mouth watering options. We had the meatball pizza (epic was NOT an understatement) and a juicy burger.
The only disappointing dish was the "burrata" salad. The cheese was a mozzarella ball, not burrata. I have had both in the past, and they are very different in consistency, flavour and, of course, price. We sent it back, saying "this is not burrata" but the chef sent it back out claiming "that's how it comes in the south of Italy". This is inaccurate; The outer casing of burrata is solid cheese, while the inside contains stratiatella and cream, giving it an unusual, soft texture. It is typical of Apulia, a province in South Italy (where I have actually been). We ended up paying for the dish, as I did not want to make a scene or the lovely waitress even more uncomfortable. But the chef is either ignorant, or he is knowingly mis-selling the cheaper mozzarella cheese as burrata. This is not cool.
I would return but not order the £14...
