The owner of the Bean and Bun Cafe was just locking the door when my son & I tried to enter. She immediately unlocked the door and asked if we were looking for food. We hesitated to say 'yes' as they were obviously closing, but she said "Come in, come in, the Chef is still here and we'll cook something for you to eat." We chose our food from the Menu, a mixture of European and Indian food and decided on something to drink. While we waited, she asked what we had been doing. We told her that we'd been disappointed by having the ELO Concert we'd travelled from our homes in Scotland to see, had been cancelled at the very last minute. The owner asked to see my t-shirt to see the name of the group, as she didn't recognise the name. A few minutes later, ELO's music was being played whilst we enjoyed the excellent food that had been prepared for us! We were so grateful to her and her Staff for going out of their way for us that evening and for trying to lessen our concert disappointment by playing ELO's music whilst we ate! The following morning, we returned for an excellent Breakfast before wending our way home. We have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this wonderful Cafe and their Staff for everything they offer their customers. If in Ashton under Lyne please visit this Cafe - you won't be...
Read moreI ordered a Mumbai/ bombay toasted sandwich from here having eaten then a few time before from other places and recieed an abomination that made me feel nauseated for days. My eyes are watering at the memory of it. Bearing in mind I'm lactose intolerant ( I can squeeze in a bit of highly processed milk byproducts).
What I recieved was a toasty with about an inch of melted cheese with hot cucumber and tomato. It sis say with mint but what it eant was a hint of jelly with green speckles with as much flavour as the cheese ( not the flavour rich Mixed herb salsa it should have been and not a masala sauce to be seen. Also no sign of a potato) It said with chips, which turned out to been 3 doretos lol. Having eaten this several times at lilies in Ashton Under Lyne I will never order anything Indian from bean and bun again! Lesson learned. Its not indian and English. Its an English Cafe that does s good breakfast and better loaded chips ( I mean real chips). But for the love of stomachs no more pretending to do decent Indian food!! Even the staff were looking at it with trepidation. Oh well at least the bin didn't complain and munched it up! 5.90...
Read moreWhen this cafe first opened the effort that went in to the service and food was amazing as times passed the service and food are really really low value and quality, the staff on the till seem to have no idea what they serve or sell and every time I come I pay a different price for the same items, then to be told that they don’t sell the item anymore and it is still on the menu, then to be served my food on a plate with dried beans egg yolk on when I didn’t even have egg is extremely concerning, we don’t receive our drinks after order and people who was served after us got there drinks and even food before us, this is a convenient location for us and we are really disappointed to say today will be our last return we have been disappointed the past few times but given it a chance as you can’t always expect service to be on the same level but the quality of how this business is ran is pathetic and will be unfortunately avoided...
