We went for my son's 18th, I will never go again which wasn't due to the food as that was very nice. The staff are all young and with no experience, they didn't know what they were serving but that was fine as you could see they were learning. The reason for the bad review is we paid a deposit of £35 which my son had paid on my card and he thought there was 7 of us going but in the end it was 5 of us as 2 couldn't make it. They only took £25 off the bill and after requesting why I spoke to the manager who was very young and clearly had no experience dealing with customers. He said 2 didn't turn up so we take that money and then tried to explain what a deposit is. I'm fair and reasonable but I explained there are still 5 of us and we have had an expensive meal with drinks, he said they could have filled the other 2 places which was a laugh as there was only 2 other tables with people on all night and now I know why, I told him we were planning on going outside all night for drinks but he just said it's our policy. It's not the £10 it's the principle and the way it's dealt with. We left and went somewhere else after paying the bill, they lost out on us staying for drinks and we will never go back again and all because of a poor policy, I get the deposit system but 5 of us turned up and spent a lot. Very poor as I didn't argue but just explained our situation and all he could say was it's policy and they couldn't do anything about it, shame as that's clearly why they aren't busy due to the poor management. We have read some of the poor reviews and they reply in an aggressive manner which explains a lot about the management. Like I say I had no problem with the waitresses and staff even though they didn't have a lot of experience, just left a disappointing feeling when what they call management don't know how to treat customers who would come back. On a response to your answer, he was young and I don't know how you looked at the video footage as you got the wrong night, we came on a Thursday not Friday night, there was only 3 sets of people in all night so you certainly didn't lose any table space and as there was 5 of us we would have had that table anyway, I didn't realise my son had booked for 7, just an oversight but certainly not worth the penalty when we just paid a big bill, you clearly don't know how to treat customers, it wasn't busy and we booked only 1 hour before we were coming so you was never going to lose out, think about the way you treat customers as we will never come back for food or drink, it was only £10 but it's the principle of the matter which you obviously...
Read moreWe went to Rising Moon yesterday (6th Feb) after a funeral. 4 of us initially with another to join soon after.
On arrive the car park was very full and we worried that there wouldn't be any space for us (you can reserve a table in advance but we didn't think we would need to on a Monday lunch time). At first we were told we would have to wait an hour for a table but soon after a table was found that fit four of us and another table next to us was just having their desserts so we were told when they have left we could move their table to join ours.
I only noticed three staff members on the floor but they coped well with a full pub, including a Wake that was going on in their back room.
We ordered our drinks - including cocktails (some I've never hear off before) and then a little while later our food.
Food arrived quickly, and there was five clean plates by the end. The amount of food was more than expected, so much so that we had looked at the desserts menu before hand but none of us could manage one as we were all stuffed.
Between us we had Beef Stroganoff, Braised Beef x 2, Pork Loin in Pepper Sauce and a hot beef sandwich. Everyone said the food was delicious.
I'm very impressed with the place. It looked nice, was clean, had a welcoming atmosphere, food was yummy, toilets very clean and outside spotless and inviting. They allow dogs in too as we met a gorgeous dog who loved a stroke called Alfie. The view was also amazing of the surrounding hills, though the pub itself is on a very fast road so be careful when leaving the car park.
Not sure if we will be up that way again as we travelled some distance to attend the funeral but if we are we all agreed we would be calling here for lunch.
Just on a side note, we were informed that when we were given the table we had it for just two hours, which was enough for us, but just to warn anyone who might be thinking about spending a good few...
Read moreI first came here in July with all my friends, we requested a table for 10 people, however when we arrived there wasn’t enough space for everyone. We asked if we could have some more chairs to be told that there was no more chairs in the whole pub resulting in 2 people from our party having to sit in a completely separate part of the pub. Thought I’d give the place a second chance, the night started off ok with us having a drink and then food, which was also ok apart from my sisters pork loin was 2 pieces of what looked liked to be sliced meat out of a packet!! We finished our meal and asked for espresso martini’s, however they didn’t have the ingredients so we opted for an Irish coffee instead. The first ‘half cup’ of coffee came out, we were asked ‘who’s first?’ We took one look and politely asked ‘is that it?’ it had half cup of coffee and hardly any cream on the top. The waitress rolled her eyes and took the coffee away. Then the next one came out, this time full to the top but the cream was spilling all over the sides that much the cup was congealed to the saucer. The coffee was cold and didn’t taste anything like an Irish coffee so I took it back to the bar and politely said ‘sorry, we don’t want them any more as it’s not nice’ next thing the manager came over to our table and accused me of saying the F word to his staff. I was astonished by this accusation as I am not the type of person to use this word. This ruined our night and we left before 8pm!! This place is in a nice spot and cosy to sit but the staff seriously need to get some training in how to treat customers and hospitality!! Never again will I return to this pub! Would much prefer to go to The Waggon...
