We went here for the first ever time this evening. Safe to say we will never be returning which is a shame as this is on our door step. We ordered from the 3 course set meal menu, we thought this was cheap but now understand exactly why! We received our starters, and not even moments later another waiter brought our mains to the table. We explained that the starters had only just been put on our table, we hadn’t even started eating them at this point! the waiter took them away and said ‘just let us know when you want it” - very poor service. One of the mains was the Mac and cheese which was the tiniest of portions and also looked as though it had just come out of the microwave. No wonder it was ready so fast! Whilst waiting for the mains to now be brought out the waiter who brought over the Mac and cheese passed our table about 7 times and could see we were done with our starters as we had stacked our plates up ready, he passed us and kept looking directly at us but chose to ignore this. Carvery was okay, not the worst but not the best. For pudding we had the bottomless ice cream sundae which sounded amazing as it was advertised as unlimited ice cream with a large variety of sauces and toppings. This was in fact a very watery ice cream out of a machine with 2 toppings to choose from, 1 option being tiny little biscuit balls that look like what you find in the corner yoghurts. Not even sure how to explain the other option, but it was not appetising. My partner managed to get his ice cream, i on the other hand got about half as the machine stopped working. I informed the staff about this and was pretty much ignored - the sundaes are advertised as bottomless meaning you can go up for as much as you would like but in this case this didn’t happen, we would not and did not go up for anymore anyway as the ice cream was vile and as mentioned, the topping choice was poor. We also informed another member of staff about the starter and main incident and all they replied with was ‘ah must have got carried away’ and that was it. Service was appalling, food was shocking, we now feel sick following the ice cream. Will not be...
Read moreIts not often myself and my son (15) get the opportunity to be able to go out to eat but when we do, we always choose the Pretty Pigs. I’m really pleased to see that the pub and restaurant have so far managed to avoid the fall out from the pandemic lockdown when so many places, sadly, haven’t. The prices have only increased slightly since our last visit (pre-lockdown) which is completely understandable after lockdown yet it is still incredible value for money. There were lots of special offers on the menu such as the midweek meals offer and the set menu offer which means we can afford to visit more often. From the moment we entered, we were greeted by a member of staff and shown to an available table. Our waitress Lucy was lovely and nothing was too much trouble for her. When I went to order our food (starters and mains) Lucy advised me that they had run out of what I had ordered for my main course but it would be available again in about 10 to 15 minutes and as we had ordered starters, I decided to risk it. Our starters came out within 10 minutes of ordering and our mains came a short while after. Our mains were bought out to us by the young lady who had previously been serving behind the carvery counter (we didn’t order a carvery on this occasion) and she was just as fab and as friendly as our waitress Lucy. Every member of staff we encountered were friendly, approachable and provided service with a smile. Our starters, mains and desserts all came out really quickly but with just right amount of time between each course. The food was lovely and there was loads on the plate. The restaurant was as clean as it could be for an early Monday evening especially as there were several young families present. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and we were really well looked after. My ONLY criticism would be to perhaps look at the gas on the beer taps as my pint of lager was slightly flat. Thank you to the staff for always making us feel welcome and for always providing stellar service. See...
Read moreA place where history, taste, and tradition meet – The Pretty Pigs
I’ve visited Pretty Pigs many times over the years, and each time I notice something new – whether it’s the food, the setting, or the warm atmosphere.
The moment you walk in, it feels like stepping into another era. The scent that greets you as you enter isn’t just traditional – it’s deeply nostalgic. It flows from the kitchen and wraps around you like a memory, like walking into your grandmother’s home on a Sunday afternoon. It carries the warmth of slow-roasted meats, cooked in the way they once were – in stone ovens, over gentle heat, with patience and love. It’s the aroma of a time gone by, of heritage, of real home-cooked food the way it used to be. The solid wooden beams and heavy rustic tables surround you… and you just sink into it. If the staff wore traditional outfits from 100 years ago — the kind that reflect their cultural heritage — you might truly feel as if you’ve stepped back in time.
The carvery is generous – beautifully cooked meats, carved fresh in front of you, with unlimited vegetables and sides. For around £10, you don’t just get a meal – you get a moment of joy and satisfaction. They also offer à la carte options, including pizza, but the traditional part is where the true heart of the place lives.
And the garden… when the weather is nice, you can sit outside surrounded by greenery and calm. It feels like you’re off the old English road, far from the noise of everyday life.
I go there often – not just to eat, but also as a delivery driver. And each time, whether I’m picking up or sitting down for a meal, I feel the same warmth and authenticity. Highly...
