Popped in here a month ago to see what the place was like... Peaceful and cosy, there are lots of little knick-knacks to look at and some are even for sale! We were made to feel welcome from the moment we stepped through the door to the moment we left. Overwhelmed by the choice of cakes on offer on the counter, I wished to try the afternoon tea, so we had to forego the beautiful creations for the three tiers of delights brought out on the stand. It was so delicious, I immediately booked for a table of 10 to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. This fell last week, and we had the perfect afternoon with high tea for all. After glasses of non-alcoholic prosecco for all, we were served the freshest, most well-filled sandwiches (salmon and cream cheese, perfectly seasoned egg mayonnaise, and cream cheese, cucumber and chive); just-baked scones with cream and proper strawberry jam (not, as my Mum pointed out, "red" jam, but strawberry jam like they used to make, where you can actually taste the berries!); and a selection of cakes, macarons, mini eclairs, and sherry glasses of a fruity mousse, topped with fresh fruit and gold lustre. The crowning glory was a cake so fresh it refused to stay in one slice as my Mum tried to portion it! (Please note, this was purchased/arranged as an extra.) The tea was hot and plentiful and was refreshed over and over. The two gentlemen who man the shop are the sweetest most friendly chaps ever. As others have mentioned, they are both deaf, but this doesn't hinder anything - indeed I even made sure I leaned a few key words in BSL, which I've loved - and I was taught a few more whilst I was there as well. Everyone said it's an absolute gem and I believe everyone has plans to return. I will definitely be going back, as I want to try more of those cakes!! Thank you for making a very special day absolutely perfect. An absolute credit to the village and...
Read moreWow - I LOVED IT - my first time here and I took my friend as a birthday treat (Belated, but so be it - we had both been poorly previously). Such a dainty + quirky place, so relaxed and calm ‘an idyllic place to hibernate when everything on the outside gets too tough’ Lamingtons 😍 It took me, my friend and my mother a little while for all the pieces to fall in to place - to realise why our original phone calls to ‘book’ the table were not answered but we were instead responded to by text and asked to communicate via text message instead of calling.. and why it was so quiet in the cafe and then... OH, 👀 mostly everyone is making signs with their hands... everyone apart from two other ladies at the table beside us and the party of three including me! But boy when the penny finally dropped, it made our visit all the more significant, it gave our day more reason and our lives more purpose. The magic of Lamingtons is something you have to experience for yourself.... Advice do book via text message to ensure you do not face disappointment if you just turn up. It can get busy and full up...
Read moreI found this beautiful little tea shop when visiting very old family graves in the church yard opposite. The man and lady couldn't have been more welcoming and attentive. My sister and I shared a savoury scone and coffee in the morning. Both were absolutely delicious. We returned in the afternoon with my brother and sister-in-law for tea and cake. My brother and sister-in-law chose the same cake and said it was the most delicious cake of that type they had ever eaten. (Sorry - can't exactly remember what they had but I really don't think you can go wrong with any of their cakes). My sister and I shared a banana cake that was equally delicious. The man and lady in-house were so friendly and attentive and went into great detail about the food. We found out that his business partner made everything in the building next door. When we explained our reason for visiting the village they both showed great interest in our family history. When it was time to go we received an equally warm farewell. I can't rate this charming tea room enough. Only wish I...
