Stayed for one night in August midweek for work. Welcoming staff, clean, tidy rooms with tasteful decor and generally in excellent condition. Toiletries including soap, shampoo and conditioner as well as a few towels and a hairdryer are provided and a kettle is in the room with assorted tea, coffee and biscuits, fresh milk in the fridge downstairs. The entrance is from the car park. You are texted a code and room directions beforehand which gives you access to your key card in a box at the entrance. The room was spacious with an armchair, small desk, dimmable lights and a large en-suite. The bed had a thick duvet, mountain of pillows and a lightweight throw ideal for adapting to variable temperatures. Breakfast was served from 8am at which time the door to the restaurant was opened. There is a menu available or you can request toast or cereal for which a selection of jams etc are available at the other end of the seating area. Tea, coffee, milk etc are also available for ordering. Service was fast, there being only 2 people at the time of my ordering. Food was freshly prepared including the granola which was serviced with a thick whipped-cream-like yoghurt and homemade composite and fresh fruit. The main road outside was a little noisy earlier in the night but soon calmed down.

What a gem this place is! I couldn't believe that the restaurant wasn't full of locals. The hotel side is delightful. The rooms are super clean and well presented. The mattress in Room 1 could do with replacing but I'm not going to knock the score. The restaurant - for both evening meal and breakfast - is exceptional. It's abundantly clear that every ingredient has been so carefully chosen (the ribeye steak is absolutely worth the price tag!) and everything is then so carefully cooked. Nothing is spared a careful attention to detail, even the bread basket with supper and the toast basket in the morning carries a range of high quality bread types. If you're passing through: stay here. If you live in the area, dine here!

If I could give this place more stars I would. Possibly the best meal I’ve ever had. You know when people ask what your death row meal would be? Just point them to this place. The wagyu steak was the best steak I’ve ever had in my life and I’ve eaten a LOT of steak. It couldn’t have been cooked better to my liking. The peppercorn sauce was to die for and the chips were amazing. The duck was incredible, the breast cooked perfectly and the little duck bonbon filled with a shredded duck with hoisin dipping sauce was unbelievable. All the food was just incredible I would highly recommend anyone in the area to go if you can. There was a big table of 10 of us and the staff were so attentive to all of our needs.

The worst experience of a hotel we have ever had. |We paid (through booking.com) for a superior double room. On our arrival no one was expecting us and in order to find a free room they walked around the property with door keys checking the rooms.|When they found us a free one we were relieved and went in to find that the room we’d been given was the standard room when we’d paid extra for a special occasion for the bigger better room. We called reception who said they’d look into it. 20 mins later a man and woman knocked on the door to say there were no alternative rooms and nothing they could do. |They offered to move us in the morning IF someone checks out but we were only booked for one night and both had work the next day so this was not a satisfactory resolution. They didn’t seem too bothered at all. ||We decided to get ready and find somewhere for dinner as we would not spend any time there that we didn’t have to. We drove around, found a lovely pub for dinner and tried to make the most of our time away. ||On our return we went straight back to our room and this is when the experience gets even worse …… staff knocking on our neighbours doors all through the night and even letting themselves in to people’s rooms. This lead to guests shouting and swearing at staff and even running down the corridors. It didn’t feel safe at all in our room or in the hotel at this point. This went on until the early hours of the morning - 2 or 3am and was followed by a lot of banging and crashing around outside our room door. We eventually got to sleep for about 2 hours before having to get up for work. |As we exited our room we were shocked to see that a camp bed had been set up (blocking the emergency exit) and a man was sleeping in the corridor. Disgusting for a number of reasons.||We went downstairs to find our neighbours from the night before down there discussing their experiences of having staff let themselves in and out of their room whilst they were trying to sleep to the point where they did not feel safe.||The man in the corridor had also booked a room that was not available when he arrived and the hotels solution was to put him in a camp bed in the emergency exit. ||I have since contacted the hotel and booking.com to give them the opportunity to rectify this. The hotel has refused ANY compensation despite paying more for a different room and booking.com have offered us £21 but will continue to allow them to advertise rooms that aren’t available charging higher prices. This is a scam. ||Avoid this hotel. My understanding (from a few of the locals) is that the hotel used to be amazing but has been under new management for a couple of months. I expect the majority of good reviews were from when the previous owners were there OR before the new one started running it into the ground OR they are fake because I’m baffled by them. ||Hopefully this will help someone to make the right decision and just book elsewhere for a lovely night away. You won’t...

A very bizarre stay. I booked one night at The Bakery Rooms as we were attending a wedding nearby. When we arrived, the check-in process was a bit amateur (I don't think they even asked my name or to prove my ID) but the room was fine, it was only for one night, so whatever.||We arrived back from the wedding at around 10.30pm, used our key card to go into our room and... all our stuff was gone. Someone else's bags were in there and there was another bed set up. Confused, we rang the number taped to the restaurant door (which is closed) and had to wake up one of the staff to come and help us.||Staff member comes to meet us. She's adamant that she had a Whatsapp conversation with me asking permission to swap rooms with a guest who had accessibility needs (we had a ground floor room, she wanted to move us up to a first floor room). She showed me the Whatsapp conversation with someone saved as "Hotel Guest". It goes without saying, she hadn't been talking to me. She hadn't even asked this person to confirm their name before moving out stuff - without our knowledge or permission - to another room. She was apologetic but we were really annoyed. It seems the new owners have no concept about how to run a hotel or B&B - and you definitely can't run one over Whatsapp! ||We are also fortunate that we didn't walk in on any hotel guests staying in "our room" as I'm sure having strangers burst in while asleep would have been scary for them.||We made it our new room. Nothing was lost or missing, but I was disappointed that we weren't even offered a partial or full refund for their own mistake.||(The new room was basic but fine, clean, but there was no hand soap in bathroom and no milk for the tea and coffee making facilities. These are pretty basic things).||We then read some recent reviews and realised that other guests also had similar weird experiences staying here. It seems the new owners are piggy-backing off the old owners' success and have no clue what they're doing. The reviews also made us decide to skip breakfast the next day - instead, we went to the tea rooms across the road for tea and cake in the morning.||I would avoid staying here unless it's one night and you have low...
