The worst experience of a hotel we have ever had. |We paid (through booking.com) for a superior double room. On our arrival no one was expecting us and in order to find a free room they walked around the property with door keys checking the rooms.|When they found us a free one we were relieved and went in to find that the room we’d been given was the standard room when we’d paid extra for a special occasion for the bigger better room. We called reception who said they’d look into it. 20 mins later a man and woman knocked on the door to say there were no alternative rooms and nothing they could do. |They offered to move us in the morning IF someone checks out but we were only booked for one night and both had work the next day so this was not a satisfactory resolution. They didn’t seem too bothered at all. ||We decided to get ready and find somewhere for dinner as we would not spend any time there that we didn’t have to. We drove around, found a lovely pub for dinner and tried to make the most of our time away. ||On our return we went straight back to our room and this is when the experience gets even worse …… staff knocking on our neighbours doors all through the night and even letting themselves in to people’s rooms. This lead to guests shouting and swearing at staff and even running down the corridors. It didn’t feel safe at all in our room or in the hotel at this point. This went on until the early hours of the morning - 2 or 3am and was followed by a lot of banging and crashing around outside our room door. We eventually got to sleep for about 2 hours before having to get up for work. |As we exited our room we were shocked to see that a camp bed had been set up (blocking the emergency exit) and a man was sleeping in the corridor. Disgusting for a number of reasons.||We went downstairs to find our neighbours from the night before down there discussing their experiences of having staff let themselves in and out of their room whilst they were trying to sleep to the point where they did not feel safe.||The man in the corridor had also booked a room that was not available when he arrived and the hotels solution was to put him in a camp bed in the emergency exit. ||I have since contacted the hotel and booking.com to give them the opportunity to rectify this. The hotel has refused ANY compensation despite paying more for a different room and booking.com have offered us £21 but will continue to allow them to advertise rooms that aren’t available charging higher prices. This is a scam. ||Avoid this hotel. My understanding (from a few of the locals) is that the hotel used to be amazing but has been under new management for a couple of months. I expect the majority of good reviews were from when the previous owners were there OR before the new one started running it into the ground OR they are fake because I’m baffled by them. ||Hopefully this will help someone to make the right decision and just book elsewhere for a lovely night away. You won’t...

Read moreA very bizarre stay. I booked one night at The Bakery Rooms as we were attending a wedding nearby. When we arrived, the check-in process was a bit amateur (I don't think they even asked my name or to prove my ID) but the room was fine, it was only for one night, so whatever.||We arrived back from the wedding at around 10.30pm, used our key card to go into our room and... all our stuff was gone. Someone else's bags were in there and there was another bed set up. Confused, we rang the number taped to the restaurant door (which is closed) and had to wake up one of the staff to come and help us.||Staff member comes to meet us. She's adamant that she had a Whatsapp conversation with me asking permission to swap rooms with a guest who had accessibility needs (we had a ground floor room, she wanted to move us up to a first floor room). She showed me the Whatsapp conversation with someone saved as "Hotel Guest". It goes without saying, she hadn't been talking to me. She hadn't even asked this person to confirm their name before moving out stuff - without our knowledge or permission - to another room. She was apologetic but we were really annoyed. It seems the new owners have no concept about how to run a hotel or B&B - and you definitely can't run one over Whatsapp! ||We are also fortunate that we didn't walk in on any hotel guests staying in "our room" as I'm sure having strangers burst in while asleep would have been scary for them.||We made it our new room. Nothing was lost or missing, but I was disappointed that we weren't even offered a partial or full refund for their own mistake.||(The new room was basic but fine, clean, but there was no hand soap in bathroom and no milk for the tea and coffee making facilities. These are pretty basic things).||We then read some recent reviews and realised that other guests also had similar weird experiences staying here. It seems the new owners are piggy-backing off the old owners' success and have no clue what they're doing. The reviews also made us decide to skip breakfast the next day - instead, we went to the tea rooms across the road for tea and cake in the morning.||I would avoid staying here unless it's one night and you have low...
