We have previously eaten at the Claycutters and the standard of food was very good. We returned today for a family get together for Sunday lunch and we were greeted by friendly and welcoming staff. Our Mum remarked on how beautiful the decor looked and how well the pub and bar had been presented. Unfortunately, the food we were served was very disappointing and almost inedible. The beef was tough and impossible to cut. The vegetables and yorkshire puddings were dry and tasteless and just horrible. I have attached a photo of the carrots that had not been cleaned and were dirty and rotten in places and clearly not honey roasted, as stated on the menu. We were asked by your staff if everything was okay and we explained that our meals were of a very poor standard. The waitress said she would relay this information to the kitchen. After some time it was clear that no -one was available to speak with us and so we paid the bill and left. It is clear to us that you have a young and friendly front of house team. On this occasion the quality of food was far below your normal standards. We are a local Bovey Tracey family that wish you well in the continued success and popularity of your business. We understand that sometimes things can go wrong but there didn't seem to be any senior management available to be able to sort this out. The front of house staff just seemed to be embarrassed...

Stopped in whilst travelling through on a long journey to take advantage of the motorhome carpark, for the traditional "Inn" experience. Parked our horse in the stables, and on a recommendation of great food from a friend, were seated and chose from the varied menu. My partner, being a large man with the appetite of a bear, went for the rump steak and I duly shared my seafood platter. Neither dish disappointed, the steak was seasoned perfectly and cooked to taste. The Seafood platter, albeit a breaded or battered selection was neither chewy or rubbery, which is common from a pub menu, so that's a definite win. Well done chef! The staff are made up of local youths from the village, all given jobs which they fulfilled with zeal, a hearty sight. Dogs welcome so lots of cooing over cute hounds, especially Olive who, despite having the best seat in the house next to a roaring wood burner, managed to successfully sabotage a sporting darts player by chewing a squeaky toy every time he aimed for the board. The bar manager gave a good solid medium between our hapless jokes and her professionalism, even chasing us back to our carriage with my forgotten scarf, an important family heirloom spun from gold which probably cost more than her weeks wages. Top points for honesty. We retired merrily without incidence, and would recommend anyone to take rest here are on their weary...

Very nice pub to look at with nice large outside area. Been a couple of times for drinks and as we had friends visiting from Yorkshire, thought we would go for a meal. Downhill from there. Food was mediocre. The Kofta flatbreads were 3 small kofta on a very large flatbread with a bit of salad and sauce. Very dry and basic. Could have had the same but much better at an Indian for half the price. The ceaser salad had very little seasoning and the lemon chicken had no sauce so was bone dry. Incidentally, the table next to us complained about dry and tough food. Nobody asked how our food was and nobody took drinks orders. Had to find a waiter once and go to the bar myself the second time. What was worse though, was the constant yapping of a sausage dog in the restaurant and I mean non stop for nearly 2 hours. My friend actually went to the owners to see if the dog was OK. I complained about the dog to a member of staff and his response was "So" and shrugged his shoulders. I said to him are you not bothered about it or me complaining and he replied "Not really" I asked for the manager telling her what had happened. She apologised but I doubt anything will change. I work in hospitality and if that had have been a member of my staff, he'd have been out of the door. Have more friends coming in 2 weeks, mediocre food, poor staff, certainly won't be coming back with them for...

Amazing Sunday lunch Lovely little quaint country pub. Great experience from start to finish, seated quickly, drink and food order was taken in good time. Sunday lunch was a very good size and the Yorkshire puddings were huge. Meat, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings arrived on the plate, then the vegetables are served in separate bowls, we had cabbage, swede, carrots and cauliflower cheese, along with extra gravy. There is a choice of beef, pork or chicken, along with a vegetarian option. Great choice of puddings also. All the staff are very friendly, polite and attentive. We booked in advance and I would definitely recommend doing this, as it was very busy and the only tables that were available were the benches outside. Definitely recommend coming here for Sunday lunch, if you are staying in or around the area. Huge outdoor space, with under cover booths and pub tables. Small children's play park, along with a small area, with goats, chickens and cockerels. Plenty of parking around the back.

Just returned so thought I would pop a review straight away due to the last one at the time of writing. Fortunately we never listen to the TripAdvisor reviews when so bad. As surely nowhere could be that bad and we were right. Visited Monday 18th February 201, lunchtime while staying in finlake holiday village (whose pub on site is questionable) Photos show the food. I had a couple of pints of otter and legend ales which were beautiful. The whole visit was lovely, the pub is like walking back 100 years with the old working fire places, beams etc. Very polite staff just an all round good egg of a local pub. Dont expect cheap food but then we like spending money to help local businesses and certainly ones that produce this food quality all meals piping hot and delicious. Keep up the good work and we will be back while we are still down here until Saturday. Show less Date of visit: February 2019
