Having a really lovely visit at this beautiful old pub. It has beautiful stained glass windows scattered throughout and loads of intimate seating areas tucked away. Really beautiful place and a stunning carvery. A really nice selection of guest ales and whiskies as well as single serve wines. There is even a small soft play section suitable for 5 and under (but not limited to that age). The carvery was really really nice - I am not a great meat eater and there was loads of quality veg including cauliflower cheese. There are also vegan options for the carvery but does require 24 hours notice so book ahead. We are staying here overnight in our self contained campervan so will update on road noise if there is any! Lovely field of cows right nextdoor and a steam train greeted us on arrival!! An absolutely lovely place to come and we will be back again!

The carvery is just delicious. Usual choices include beef, chicken, turkey or ham, as well as a vegetarian nut roast option. Meats can be served singularly or two combined. Help yourself to the variety of vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and the all essential gravy (veggie option available too) and enjoy an enjoyable, belly-busting meal. There is a good variety of beers, ales, ciders, wines, and spirits to enjoy alongside your meal and, if you have room, a selection of desserts to finish you off, literally 😉.

I write this in mid October and this pub is eccentricly covered, laidened in fact, with halloween decorations, complete with a gremlin in the hand dryers. Full of character, charm, good humour, and (by the looks) honest food. Some wonderful and beautiful staff, a real rest bite from the world outside. Got me a tasty pint, which tastes fresh and like the lines are kept clean! Certainly a pub I'll visit again! Looking forward to see how it is decked out next time.

I am not usually one to write a bad review but received such bad service I felt compelled to share our experience. Our family of 5 went for a Sunday roast here yesterday along with two children (one being under 1) we all had the carvery except the children. We ordered one kids meal and then the baby had some of the carvery from one of our plates (literally a potato and a Yorkshire pudding) we lined up to receive our carvery and the chef was rude from the word go, absolutely miserable and acting as if every move he had to make was a hinderance. My mum then asked for a side plate which he at first said he couldn't give - but then begrudgingly gave us one, which we didn't understand as its not clear AT ALL that they offer a small bowl for babies for a price of £2. The chef then followed us back to the table to say that we weren't supposed to give any of our food to the baby, which can be completely understandable as I can imagine some people do take the mickey and could pile a whole extra plate up. However as I said this would be understandable if this was said in a polite way to us, this was certainly not the case. The chef immediately raised his voice, shouting this is exactly why I didn't want to give you a side plate, the money for the extra food (a potato and Yorkshire pudding) would come directly out of his pocket and when questioned if this was advertised clearly she walked away whilst shouting loudly that "they've been doing this for ages" this was obviously extremely embarrassing as other diners had by this point turned around to see what was going on.. We were utterly shocked at how he spoke to us. My brother (the father of the two children) then proceeded to go and get his carvery as he had to go last in order to look after them. As he waited in line he could very clearly hear the chef screaming to his other colleagues about how outraged he was, swearing about us, also saying "if they can't afford to pay for their kids then they shouldn't bring them out" whilst he was is the kitchen. I personally find this extremely offensive as my dad specifically offered to pay for the extra food (can I state again the 1 potato and Yorkshire pudding) by presenting the two pounds to the chef himself which he didn't take as he walked away shouting at us. For us (and probably not only us) to hear him loudly slagging us off to all his colleagues when we spent £70 with them is completely unacceptable, coming from the hospitality industry myself, I would never ever speak to a paying customer in that manner in a million years. Absolutely disgusted. Such a shame as the waitresses couldn't have been more helpful. The whole experience and standard of service was completely let down by the miserable, unhelpful chef... The food was highly underwhelming as well may I add. Would...

Went for a carvary here & it was the worst carvary I've ever had! To start it was expensive £10.75 for a carvary, I asked for a small.plate as well as one of our group has not got a big appetite so wouldn't eat lots this cost £9.75 which I thought again was expensive for the size of the plate considering a child's portion was around tge £6 mark can't quite remember exactly how uch it said it was. The carvary looked nice however the beef tasted as if it was just going off & had a really bad inspid vile odd taste, the cauliflower cheese was not good, carrots not buttered & tasted of mouthful of water, swede had no taste either, Yorkshire puddings were cold. There was also alot of flies where we were sat, which wasn't good, all ini all not good, I called the waitress over who apologised as I hardly ate any of my meal (couldn't as not nice) the waitress was really apologetic -- have to say the staff were all very polite & looked nice, smart/presentable. The waitress said she'd get the manager to see me, however who I presume was the Head Chef came out to see me, he didn't look very happy & asked what was wrong with my meal, I told him & said it was also tasteless which he repeated & said really? I reaffirmed my findings & he offered me a refund for 2 of our meals as 2 of us did not eat our meals. We got our refund & left. The head chef & the chef serving behind the counter both had very long hair & beards I do feel that this gave an impression of scruffy & unclean appearance as both loosely tied up, as the food wasn't good last thing you need to find is hairs in the food too! A haircut for both would not go amiss & shaving beards so alot shorter would give a nicer & cleaner appearance! However I would not go back to the Swans Nest, I found it to be dingy with not alot of light, the funiture very old fashioned & cramped, it may have looked good 20 years ago but now it just looks very dated & not very comfortable, it's not light & airy and I thought it...

We are locals but have never eaten here before today. Sorry to say that the food was not up to scratch for the price of it, based on today's visit, we won't be back and won't recommend to anyone. The food came out quickly and we were expecting it to be to a good standard, so were disappointed. The carvery is £14.95, and was not worth that whatsoever; had it been £8.95, I wouldn't have grumbled so much as my expectations would have been lower. Despite someone elses comment saying the meat was dry, the meat was nice, and so was the staff member serving it. The stuffing was awful, like tasteless porridge, stodgy and sloppy. The parsnips seemed to have been dry roasted with no oil or seasoning and were hard. The taste of all the elements on the plate was very bland, it was like a roast someone's nan cooked. The fish and chips were ok, but the fish was ever so slightly undercooked, and the nuggets kids meal was disappointing because we lost half of it on the floor - every time my daughter stabbed a fork in, the rock hard nuggets flew onto the floor, would have been ok, but the chips were like the scraps you get at the end of the night in a fish and chip shop. No one came to ask if the meal was OK either. We were hungry so ate what we could. All of this combined left us feeling pretty ripped off to be honest.

Lower the prices, or...
