We came here for lunch on Saturday 20 August; it was brilliant.

We’ve visited “The Carps” a lot over the last 4-5 years and have always enjoyed the warm welcome there from Rich & Yvonne. Cards on the table: I know these guys personally…But lunch this time around was so good that I felt compelled to get a review in. . My partner had a vegetarian wellington and I had fish & chips: both were honestly exceptional. F&C isn’t hard to make tasty, but this was another level: mushy peas had loads of flavour, chips cooked perfectly and the fish (which Rich cuts himself) was delicious. The icing on the cake was the large chunks of salt crystals that were scattered around the dish and really set the flavours off when you crunched in to them. Genuinely perfect, wouldn’t have changed a thing.

I normally get a few bites of my partner’s food too but this time didn’t get that; it went down just as well as my lunch. Rich...

Popped in for a drink today for the first time in a month or so and found it had changed hands. Inside has been freshened up, but after chatting to one of the new owners most of the work has been done behind the scenes with a new kitchen and toilets being fitted soon. This is a lovely little proper village pub but as a regular visitor has always felt very welcoming and the food has been consistently good. In the summer there are tables outside or on really hot days it's nice and cool indoors due to the thick walls, in the winter the log burners keep it toasty. There were several casks of ale with jackets on along the back of the bar today, Otter and Dartmoor, so we had our drinks straight from the cask. I'll be interested to try the food once the new menu is up and running when I'm next in the area in a week or...

How do we find your menu I can’t find it on Facebook and website doesn’t work

Thankyou for your reply Apologies I was not trying to do a rating just trying to find out how to access the website or how to find a menu

Yes please do send me details we would love to visit you

I will try to remove the rating I hadn’t realised I had done one

Just tried it appears I have to give you a rating to send a message so changed it to 3 I hope that is ok?

If there is a better way to make contact do let me know I just can’t find any info and the website only sends you to this page - not sure if that is an error

Thankyou for your...

Booked for Saturday lunch after Dartmoor walk. Wasn't busy. Sat outside, very dog friendly. Water bowl and lead hooks on all picnic benches. Service by Evonne was excellent. Good selection of drinks and all home cooked food is on the daily boards (see photos) Sharing fish platter was superb. Will definitely return. Local village shop is worth a visit too Another visit for my father's 85th birthday. Great food, drink and service again. Definitely worth the half hour drive from Exeter

I absolutely love this pub. It ticks my personal pub-preference boxes! It's small and cosy with a lovely atmosphere. My brother argues it's a winter pub (and I can say I have had a lovely roast and pint there when escaping the cold), but I'd say it is an all-year rounder. Petite perfection if they were to rotate a few more guest ales on tap!
