We stayed for one night and dinner and were so disappointed in the whole situation experience, because of the reviews we were expecting it to be amazing. First of all the room was very small with no room to open out a tiny suitcase, I didn’t want to empty it for one night. The headboard on the bed creaked all night, every time one of us turned over it creaked keeping us awake, the pillows hard and the bed would definitely not accommodate larger people we are only small and struggled. The flush didn’t work properly. However the room and bathroom were exceptionally clean. Although the walls are really thick and the floors squeak which is fine with us we love olde worlde, the doors to the rooms are so thin you can hear everything and everyone going past your room and obviously visa versa!! Not much privacy. Our meal, which was refunded was awful, the steak on one was 1/3 fat and the other because they were cooked together half the thickness was overcooked and dry as old boots. We waited till breakfast as we had booked two nights to decide whether to stay on thinking it may be a saving grace, it wasn’t. The breakfast according to the chef was already cooked waiting for just the eggs to cook despite being given an allotted time to eat, so the bacon was burnt and dried out the sausage although local was not a breakfast sausage, it had quite a strong flavour and the coffee was so strong you could stand a spoon up in it!! The eggs were perfect and really tasty. Outside it’s neglected with the bench seating in dire need of replacing, they have splintered and are very wobbly. There is an arch that has screws sticking out if it all the way around it, not child friendly shown in photo. The host was tired looking and although polite not very approachable, she seemed to be trying to do too many jobs and hence not giving her best to any. We had a lecture on arrival on how we could be putting her life at risk if we didn’t follow the procedures they have with handing in keys if going out or keeping them if our after 10p.m, it felt it was more about her safety not ours. All in all it was very structured staying here, waiting to be seated at dinner having specific breakfast times allotted, so didn’t feel a relaxing break. We received as I said a refund for the meal but no effort was made to try to offer us a refund for the night we didn’t stay or to try to give us an incentive to stay. The reviews were the reason we booked but it wasn’t what they said it was. We have never written a review before but felt that this needed to be reviewed for other...
Read moreWhat an absolutely beautiful little gem of a find literally hidden away in the sticks and run by such lovely hospitable husband & wife owners and staff too. Although obviously very busy when myself and my son checked in to stay on Sunday night, our welcome was warm & friendly, choices for us to fill in for breakfast given with our room keys and we were shown to our rooms which were lovely and clean, with very comfy beds with crisp white bedding and all the little touches you could possibly need, complete with beautiful wooden beams and old doors. Back downstairs for our evening meal we didn't have to wait long for our order to be taken and wife owner (sorry I didn't catch your name) even managed to get the chef to rustle up some truffle fries with Aoli for me which I was really looking forward to trying on our visit (they weren't actually on the Sunday menu). Our meal was delicious!!! The Ramen noodles were sooo tasty and spicy hot as i'd requested when asked, and my son had the korean BBQ brisket burger. VERY IMPRESSED!! And he knows a good burger. The selection of ciders/ales/gins etc that filled the bar was impressive. I tried the Sams Raspberry cider and have found a new favourite. Lush! Breakfast made by husband Paul was served really quickly too and was absolutely lovely!! A proper full English with vegetarian sausages as a choice on tick menu given, perfect eggs, 2 toast, mushroom, beans, tomato, marmalade/jams, cereals if you would like as well as a cafetiere of coffee, juice, tea. At both meals owners asked if everything was ok with our meals and we were 100% happy both times. We checked out with very happy tummies and absolutely loved our stay. The old antiques, cob walls, huge fireplaces and tapestries...leaded stained glass windows...climbing roses...thatched roof. Just beautiful. We will...
Read moreMy husband & I were recently on holiday in the area & following a delightful drive in the countryside we came across the Cridford Inn & decided to stop for lunch. The pub it's self is absolutely beautiful, but not so the welcome. As soon as we approached the bar to ask about the lunchtime menu a very weary looking middle aged lady sighed & informed us we should have booked. (we had no idea it was bookings only) She made us feel like we were a problem, & the pub itself was not busy. The lady informed us we could have not have any special's or roast, because we had not booked, so the only options available to us were from the al a carte menu, which was singularly uninspiring, & did not look very "al a carte" We both opted for burger & chips as nothing else looked appealing, & we ordered a pot of tea for two. The food was served promptly by a very friendly lady with blonde hair, who was delightful. The burger was ok, although nothing special, but the chips were of the frozen variety, anaemic & very few, served in a tiny basket resembling a mini chip shop frying basket. For this meal & our pot of tea we got hardly any change out of £40! For tea, frozen chips & a burger this was certainly on the expensive side! I understand that this is an old historic pub & perhaps is very popular, but we were literally just passing & did not realise it was bookings only for lunch, & we certainly felt penalised & unwelcome because we had not done so. The blonde waitress however was lovely & almost made up for the lack of welcome we initially received, but if we holiday in this area again we would not go...
