We went along for the Absolute Amy Tribute Night. She was absolutely amazing and have been wanting to see her in Devon for a long time so am thankful to the Old Inn for making this happen!
Unfortunately, nowhere on the literature did it say that we would have to share a table with other diners. If I am completely honest, if we had known that, we wouldn't have booked it. We don't get much time to ourselves as it is, and after a long week at work, we just wanted to unwind together, not with other people. When I first mentioned this, we were told it was because they wanted to get as many people in for the event as possible and it was a sense of community. I appreciate the community vibes but again, it should have been mentioned. I also think getting as many people in to enjoy the event is fair, but it has to be comfortable. When we were seated, I could see that my partner was uncomfortable with the setup, so I went back up to the bar and explained how we felt. Kindly, we were moved to a table nearer the front with just two covers. It was awkward having to tell the other diners we were moving (the situation could have been avoided) but at least we were moved. Unfortunately, the table was extremely close to other people, so close that the diner on the side of my partner pretty much shared his chair as an arm rest! It was the best we were going to get so we just tried to make the most of it. We did end up moving back to another table nearer the back because the bingo and raffle was extremely loud (music was OK but maybe we are getting old!). Also - chairs are super uncomfortable - not meant to stay on them for 4 hours I guess.
Food - In regard to the food - this was fantastic. We did wait over an hour for our food, and we weren't notified of the wait or that we would be eating while Amy was singing, but hey ho. The vegan options were brilliant and super tasty. No complaints about the quality and presentation.
Drinks - all fine - aside from almost £7 for a bottled cider - appreciate the mark up in pubs but was a bit shocked by that. Also I specifically asked for oat milk in my coffee, and just as I was checking that the chocolate on top was vegan, the waitress realised it was cow's milk so quickly replaced it. This could have been much worse if I had actually had it but thankfully it was noticed!
Again, the event was great. Not sure why Bingo was crammed in before it? Food was great. Service was pretty good too and it wasn't the waiters fault about what had happened. It is just such a shame we had the incident as mentioned because it could have been a much...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeen to The Old Inn on a number of occassions under the previous managment and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere , food and level of service . Sadly will not be going again as on this occassion under the new managment the food was not as good and the service was very disappointing , more like a visit to a Toby Inn for a serve yourself Carvery and then being told I had ordered a Desert totally different to what I had ordered and pretty much forced to accept it by a member of staff , which was very difficult to refuse as the bill had already been settled . Sorry but an honest review of a once very nice place to have a Sunday lunch that has now lost its spark ,... Edit addition in reply. Unfortunately the owners response has been exactly as expected , see below , We originally ordered the sticky toffee pudding but asked to change it to a chocolate brownie as my dining partner doesn't like fruit in the pudding , I personally asked at the bar if this could be changed to a chocolate Brownie with custard and what appeared was a lemon posset that had never been mentioned to which the member of staff insisted I had . No Chocolate brownie had appeared at the table at any stage so after a denial from myself the member of staff responded that I had in fact ordered this Lemon Posset desert that neither myself or my dining friend had ever even heard of , I feel like I had been accused of lying which I totally reject and this has made me want to reinforce to future customers that my review is in fact an honest review of a Sunday lunch that had fallen short especially because that if we had been informed that the lunch was going to be carvery style then we certainly would have cancelled and gone elsewhere , we were only made aware it was a carvery set up on arrival and was told this was because they were short staffed , a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been going here for years and always enjoyed it in the pub. The last few years were disappointing as they changed hands, the food went down hill so we all stopped going. I was so happy to see it has just changed hands again and couldn't wait to go again for my sisters birthday... Firstly we had one extra person, the owner got in a mood and yanked the table to open it further - some of us had drinks on the table and the children jumped. Where do I start we waited an hour and 15 mins for our food. I was so happy they did a jacket potatoes, so I ordered a jacket potatoes as I wanted to eat healthy and checked out the menu before we booked. My husband ordered a steak with a jacket potatoe.
About an hour before it arrived the owner came to our table to say I can't have a jacket potato they don't do them on a Saturday as it's too busy. I went through the menu they didn't have anything I liked which was heathly, I was absolutely gutted (through trying to order the owner was very rude rolling his eyes tuting and tapping on his clipboard and extremely moody.)
Well my husbandās food came out with a jacket potato on his plateā¦. The owner couldnāt explain why I could have one when we questioned him, he was just so rude and very argumentative. My husband offered to put the jacket potatoe on my plate but the owner was watching us and we felt if he had of done it the owner would have taken it further (it wasnāt worth it as heād already upset my sisters bday meal.)
Please see my pictures- The owner said couldnāt do a jacket potatoes with egg mayo š¤¦āāļø
If it wasnāt for the owner and his very poor attitude the pub would be lovely.
All the other staff...
