Nice pub restaurant with a large garden and carpark. The bar area has exposed beams a large fireplace and beer on tap! Restaurant is small but they do have more tables outside if the weather is nice. Staff are really friendly and seemed very helpful. Food was good! They have a little allotment in the garden that they grow some of the food that they use in the kitchen. I loved that I must say, and the kids can have a look too as its out the back. Update: We've been back recently and things have changed a bit. Gone are the conifers surrounding the garden and it's opened up some spectacular views of the fields and if you're there at the right time the sunset! The food is still delicious! and on this visit I had the best pork belly I have ever tasted! I don't say that lightly either it was amazingly cooked and tasted so. The fried squid was beautiful too so I thought I'd finish it all off with an Eton mess 🤤. The staff are very friendly and helpful too, nothing was too much. A great night had by all.

Myself and the family had booked this little beauty of a restaurant some months back now. On entering the restaurant we were greeted with smiles and the warmth of a fire and seated to our table. We all ordered our drinks which came out promptly and then followed by the food order. The starters arrived followed by the mains and boy we certainly wasn’t disappointed, the food is fab, honestly the best Christmas Turkey Dinner I’ve ever had with all the trimmings some had the Cod and Chips and one had the Salmon. All the food was excellent. For dessert only 4 of us could manage anything as they were full up from the starters and mains. The staff were all amazing and the Restaurant was very clean and homely, we were all very comfortable. The service was superb considering it was fully booked. We will all be returning in the New Year and can’t wait. Thanks Everyone for all your hard word, well done we all had an absolute amazing time and the food was excellent.

Another visit to meet up with friends, 2/12/22 Excellent Xmas Dinner, along with my chicken N stilton and wife's wonderful lamb steak, this place really is worth the hour journey. For value and service. Advise pre booking 3rd visit, excellent as usual the spare ribs were magnificent 1st visit:Bit out of the way from where we live(Billericay) but was worth going for the wonderful steak and kidney pudding(possibly the best I've had for taste and size) and spiced apple crumble(£6.50) with big jug of custard 4 main 2 desserts 2 red wine 4tonic water and 4coffee plus a nice cheese board Party of 4 =£111.00 (not incl service charge 👍) The crumble although high in price was excellent(see pic) 5🌟 service Wide ranging menu's incl vegan Large car park Outside seating for summer evenings Advance booking is strongly advised. Will return.

Unfortunately the Ploughmans is no longer on the menu 😩 But my disappointment at being unable to try it soon disappeared - the food and service here is excellent, highly recommend. We shared the duck pancake starter, and they even went out of their way to split it in to 2 portions. The duck was really nice! For mains I opted for the Mersea fish of the day, and it was delicious. So fresh and a great combination with the chorizo, and garlic sauce. At around £18 I thought it was pretty good value too. Only downside is the menu on the website is tiny, and you don’t see the seasonal specials until arrival, so for a fussy eater it’s hard to decide if there’s something they’ll eat! Definitely recommend booking too. We arrived at 12pm and by 1pm the dining room was full.

We popped in recently on a Wednesday. We weren't expecting it to be rammed! Amazing service, relaxed and friendly, run by people who are obviously passionate about what they do. Food was very good indeed. We had the Belly Pork Bites and Prawn Pil Pil to start, followed by Venison Steak and the Pork Belly main. We followed up with Eton Mess and Lemon Tart. They were all nicely presented but the taste was truly superb, off the charts. (The beetroot paired with venison worked so well) . We will definitely be back.

The only picture I took was this gorgeous mouth watering dessert. We went on Valentines evening to the Wooden Fender. It was so stunning. We sat over in the far right near the window of the front. Quite cosy, proper English pub atmosphere which I adore. Our meal was stunning and staff were all so lovely to chat with they were very attentive, but not overly which is perfect! Sense of humour too which I thought was a nice touch! We will definitely be back ♡
