Janes Pantry — Restaurant in Tewkesbury

Local coffee shop so been a few times but honestly it’s purely the location that has made me return as I can walk there instead of drive. The pastries and cakes are good but the service is always slow and the customer service is really poor. When you walk in and wait to be served, there’s always numerous people behind the counter doing things but not one ever says ‘be with you in a moment’ or similar. A couple of people behind the counter are often doing things which, in my opinion, could and should wait until after they have served a customer who is waiting (such as putting several bits of tape on a packet of cheese). Then, when you finally get served, it’s never with a smile. I think I have been here 5 or 6 times and never had service with a smile. It’s the easiest thing someone can do in a customer facing role and makes such a difference. The young girls especially could do with a lesson or two in customer service in my opinion.

Has a walk-in order section next to the cakes and bakes, but will make you sit down and wait to order your food if you or any of your party are sitting in, instead of ordering at the till. Sat and waited at our table to be served, ordered the two very easy-to-get things I wanted while the rest of my group ordered hot food. And by the time food was brought out they said the cake I ordered was all gone as other walk-ins had taken them, even though it was there when I ordered and I paid for the damn thing. Also all the hot food came out before the two small things I ordered, that I can see are ready and are being displayed. I saw this happening before it did and tried to say this but was told “oh it’s table service it’s table service” when all I wanted was a quick light bite and the staff wouldn’t hear any of it. Was offered any other cake but, funnily enough, I didn’t want any others as I wanted the one I paid for, funny that. We visited here whilst on holiday and We were really disappointed with this place as it looked amazing. It was bright and Airey and there were plenty of staff but unfortunately that’s where the positives end. On the Saturday we opted for a takeaway bap as we were short on time, it still took quite a long time to get our food and the girl serving us asked me 4 times what we ordered whilst she was making it in front of me. When the food arrived the mushrooms in the bap were still raw the sausages not great! On the Sunday we thought we would give it another go as we had more time so opted for a sit down breakfast. We were told that they don’t offer a full breakfast on a Sunday as they don’t have a chef! There were no signs to say a limited menu on Sunday's was available. We again had a breakfast bap as that can be cooked by the unqualified staff. There were only 10 other people in the restaurant so not exactly busy but the service was still slow.
