We had a lovely meal at the Coy Carp today,we have not been in a number of years(to eat here)and I am pleased to see that it is still as good as it was and that it is still popular. It is such a perfect Pub,you cannot get a more spectacular location especially with the two rivers, the food is nice, the service is good and it is lovely inside. The decor is so lovely,it is so cosy and charming. The Pub feels like it has been re-done recently especially the toilets. The carpet was absolutely immaculate. The paintings are really nice too and add to the atmosphere. The real fireplace with an actual working fire in here something special,it is very enticing and creates a warm cosy atmosphere and environment. I would recommend you sit at the end of the bottom floor of the Pub if you can. The reason is because you get the most beautiful views of the river and you get to watch the cars go by. The service was fantastic too,the food took a little while to come but I understand that they were busy. The Staff were polite. The server(who was on their first shift)was really polite and did a fantastic job! Despite that it was their first shift they had a great knowledge on allergies and knew how to care for an allergy properly. This shows that the Coy Carp must give good training to the staff. The food was absolutely delicious,we only went for mains today but I had the 10oz Ribeye steak which was absolutely delicious,so tender,so well cooked and cooked precisely to my liking(well done(the type of Steak I had)). It had a lot of flavour too. I have eaten many Steaks at Restaurants in the U.K. and abroad,I can safely say that this is one of the best Steaks I have had in the U.K! The Mash was amazing too,I liked the leek inside the Mash and it really added to the flavour. The Mash was delicious and creamy. The Steak usually comes with Chips, tomatoes and a sauce of your choice. But because I am gluten free I cannot have the Chips so I went for the mash but it didn’t matter because the substitute of Mash was even better. The only thing that is not so perfect is the amount of Gluten Free choice. I am not expecting anywhere near the range of options that the Loungers restaurants or the Pho cafe have but I would like at least 20% of the menu to be gluten free or have a gluten free alternative. For mains on the Monday to Saturday there is a Steak or the Lamb Rump that is gluten free. Also on Smartchef(I know this place uses glass onion for allergens)they list the Halloumi and Pepper Kebab and the Chips as gluten free, whilst they are gluten free unfortunately they are cooked in the same thing as gluten containing food so don’t have your heart set on any options. It’s a shame that the Coy Carp(Vintage Inns)doesn’t have a lot of gluten free options for mains because Mitchell’s and Butlers(the company that they are owned by)also owns Brown’s brasserie and Miller and Carter which are fabulous for gluten free. They are even coeliac accredited restaurant chains! If M&B can do that with Miller and Carter and Browns I would like to see more options with Vintage Inns and the Harvester. On the other hand the Staff were really careful with my gluten allergy and handled it with utmost care and my food even came with a flag in it. The menu looks beautiful. Also with the Steak you can add an extra Skewer with the Steak so you can mix and match which I think is a good idea. I would highly recommended the Coy Carp. I hope to return sooner.

I went here based upon the fact that I love The Water's Edge Restaurant in Uxbridge - Packet Boat Lane. The Coy Carp looked similar and had decent reviews so I thought I would go for my birthday lunch. I was impressed with the free parking and the lake was really nice with the bridge walkway upon arrival. Unfortunately everything else from that point went down hill. I think they need to re-name the venue 'The Cobbed Corpse' since everything you look at is covered in cob webs and it looks like it has been left untouched for years. It is such a shame, as this restaurant has such potential, but the owners / management do not take any pride in the appearance or maintenance of this place. The first thing I noticed was that the bridge was completely covered in spiders webs. But then this was exactly the same throughout the building and grounds. There were no pretty flowers in the gardens and all the grass had dried out to hay. I cannot begin to describe the state of the tables and chairs ;-0 I chose to eat outdoors in the lovely summer weather, but I could not find one single clean table. It was obvious that no one cleans the furniture. It was pretty appauling. The tables and chairs were riddled with spiders and webs. My shed at home isn't even that bad. There were no staff available to clean our chosen seating area, so myself and my mum had to do it begrudgingly. The staff were verrrrry slow in coming round to serve us and they weren't even welcoming either. I had to get up twice to go to the bar to get my own drinks. We both ordered from the 'Fixed Price Lunch Menu' This was a total scam. It was not a fixed price. My mum ordered a caesar salad, but then got charged extra if she wanted chicken. If you want a burger on the fixed price menu, you have to pay extra for that too.... So why do they even put it on there in the first place!!!! Anyway. The mains came and it was embarassing. What a rip off. Such an expensive meal for limp lettuce leaves. It looked nothing like a caesar salad. Not even croutons. It was more like a small side salad, no way a main dish. We were both already put off of our food sitting underneath a filthy umbrella with dangling cob webs which we had to avoid blowing in out food with the wind. The floor was covered in bird poo and used tissues. I dread to think how long they had been there for. We couldn't even order any dessert, as we had visions of cob webs in the kitchen too. It was the most tragic birthday meal I have had, but I felt bad on my mum who was treating my with her pension money and saved up especially. I think this restaurant take their name 'Vintage' too literally!!!! They seem to think that means you do not clean anything (ever). We certainly wont be returning. And would never recommend this to friends or family. If you read this review don't waste your time or money!!

It started of well with the manager who directed us to our table with a smile. We were then served our drinks by the waitress and the pineapple juice was dark brown like black tea and did not smell right. So the waitress changed it and this time brought an dark orange glass of so called pineapple juice which tasted like orange juice! Anyway, i didnt think that was a big deal as they dont make the juices in house so i guess it wasnt their fault. Until the roast came. Omg. The potatoes were like bricks I couldn’t even poke the fork into them - this was for both me and my 5 year old. The Yorkshire pudding was also like a rock and so was the chicken - couldn’t even cut into it. I was shocked that such food was allowed to be served by ‘chefs’ so i called the waitress again and showed her how rock hard the food was. She was clearly upset about me being direct and went back to the manager telling her i threw the potatoes at her!!!!! Im sure if i threw those potatoes at her she’d have knocked out thats how hard they were lol. Anyway they took half the food away and couldnt serve more roast potatoes because they didn’t have any more which is strange because other tables were getting served potatoes and Yorkshire pudding?! The manager apologised and said ‘yeah i couldnt even bite into the potatoes, im so sorry this shouldnt have been served, ill remove this from the bill’. All im saying is this was the WORST food ive ever been served. Bloody embarrassing. Thought it was a prank for a second. And no the ‘discount’ doesn’t make up for poor quality food and a ruined meal by your staff.

This has to be one of my favourite Canal side pubs with lots of history in the surrounding area & lovely walks by the canal. I've been coming here for (15+) years. Every time I'm passing bye on my Canal boat I always try and moore up near by for my 2 weeks stay & pop in and see Martin and his team.

What's to like?

A Great location,A nice garden with lots of tables. Free WiFi. A good selection of cask ale 🍺 &🍷 + Gin,Whiskey & cocktails available. Also Tea,coffee for the non drinkers & soft drinks for the kids.

Doggy beer (water) is available for your pooches and well behaved dogs can have a doggy treat. Ask the staff. Muddy paws 🐾 are welcome at the bar but not in the restaurant. 🐕🐩🐶

Bar snacks available,see menu!

A menu that changes every few month & there is always something interesting on it & sometimes I have hard time choosing what to have to eat 😋

If you like your Sunday Roast pop in & try one, very nice. (I would phone and book a table for Sunday lunch)

What's not to like?

Right PARKING...Let's get this out of the way, it's FREE for pub guests. YOU just need to enter your vehicle's registration at the console just inside the pub entrance or at the bar,any problems see the staff for help.

If you forget to then you could be in for a fine!

If you just want to park & take a walk along the Cancel then you Pay!

There are a lot of parking signs around the car park telling you to enter your registration at the pub so you can't really say you didn't see them!!.

It can get INSANELY busy on a nice day and you may have to wait for your food,so just warning you!

So sit back and relax, watch the Canal boats or the Ducks go by & have a drink🍷🍻 🙂 while you wait.

Lastly,

The WiFi here is ok here, you have to sign up/In for free internet 🛜

Overall IMHO it's a nice place to relax and have a drink & grab a bite to eat. So if your passing by on your Canal boat or by car/bike or just on foot drop in and check the Cory Carp out you may like it, just like I do. 😎 Enjoy! "H"

If you like this review & found it helpful leave me a thumbs up 👍🏻& maybe follow me on...
