I booked for 10 people for Christmas dinner in October paying a £10 deposit per person. Between then and Christmas my elderly grandad had become very ill with cancer and was not able to eat barely anything most days. I called the manager about a week before Christmas to ask if he could possibly have a child’s portion on the day as this was a lot cheaper and we knew he’d probably only have a few mouthfuls. I was told that no he couldn’t have this as I’d booked for an adult and it wasn’t about the amount of food it was about the space taken up, I believed this point was not valid as a 10 year old child would take up the same space as an adult and he’d definitely eat less than a 10 year old. To this I was told that it was his choice not to eat much and he was trying to run a business. Totally understand about running a business but also there should be an element of compassion and hospitality when running a pub. In the end after being quite irate I was told by the manager we could discuss it on the day. In the end my grandad also nearly couldn’t even come to the meal, we managed to get him out but he probably ate about one potato and a tiny amount of the starters. The manager never bought it up on the day and in the end I didn’t want to start an argument but still very unimpressed with the whole situation.
In addition the main we were only bought a handful of potatoes for 9 of us and at dessert only two scoops of ice cream between all of us and had to ask a number of times before receiving more.
The food was nice and waiters and waitresses were lovely but I won’t be visiting again based...
Read moreGood food at the stag, desserts a bit hit or miss! Went for a Sunday roast. Shocked to see how much the price has gone up for a Sunday roast which was just like a good homemade tasty roast, but certainly nothing exceptional to warrant the price. The plum tart was small and bit tasteless but ok ,good icecream. Unfortunately we have been dinning at the Stag for some years now,but since theyve been charge extra by adding a service charge even when only 2 dinning! It certainly starts becoming quite expensive especially for a Sunday lunch in a pub. We always do tip when we have good service, but prefer to give cash to the waiter/ress personally to make sure they do receive it. We tend to sit in the conservatory which ,im pleased to say theyve finally fixed the heating out there as many a time weve sat with our jackets on which doesnt make for pleasant atmosphere,or comfort. Only the conservatory is looking very tired with missing wooden panelling cobwebs and wallpaper stained and splitting from rain water damage! But it can get a bit noisy sitting in the bar area with the tv,dogs, families not what you want when coming out for a relaxing dinning experience. This sadly will now be our last time we dine there. The owner we feel is getting too greedy and letting...
Read moreMy husband and I had a lovely lunch today at the Stag in Chorleywood. Haven’t been there for a long time and it was one of the best meals in terms of quality and value for money we’ve had in ages. Starters of chicken wings and prawns about £8 each and mains of chicken burger and steak sandwich about £15 with really generous portions. Pudding was amazing! We also saw them cooking and taste testing some new dishes for the menu which looked delicious (mushroom and nduja pasta dishes, couple of fish dishes - even a lobster and crab lasagne 👀) - just wish I’d of had some room left to try them! If you haven’t been lately then I would highly recommend! When I called to book a table I mentioned we’d have our baby with us and they made sure our table had plenty of space for the pram which was a lovely considerate touch. There was also a lovely log...
