Warm welcome? Not a chance.
Staff are too busy to say Hi or to help. Infact 5 members of staff around the bar could not point me and my family to a table for 12 minutes. It's customer service at its worse.
We arrived at 4.15pm for our 4.15pm booking. We are told to wait. Multiple members of staff go past us, no other customers waiting to be seated, circa 5 free tables, yet we waited 12 minutes, only for a waitress to nod a signal to let us know we can sit at the table she just wiped, and left wet!
At 4.31pm we asked a waitress if we can order starters - none of the staff are interested in serving you until you call them and even then you feel like you've asked for a miracle.A random waitress tells us that Rachel will come and take our order. Order is eventually taken by Rachel.
The food is very good. Fish is outstanding and chips were a tad undercooked. Chirzo is outstanding, calamari is NOT very good. Look at the photos, it's poor at over £7. But the entire experience is ruined with rude, misserable and unhelpful staff who clearly need customer service training.
Upon exit I ask who the manager is. Shaun tells me that he is the manager but does not proceed to enquire as to why I am asking.
Whilst we were there, the table next to us gets drink delivered a long time after ordering with an appology from Shaun and I beleive on the house. In a seperate instance a lady is complaining around 4 members of staff at the bar.
Whilst the fish was outstanding, £85 for 2 adults and 1 child is not worth the money for service which is absolutely pathetic at best. I would reccomend that the owner provides customer service training to all staff, including endeavours to ensure that ALL custoners receive a warm welcome with better communication and, god...
Read moreThe good. The staff were friendly, the ales good, and the decor was nice.
The bad. The food was poor. Not terrible, but not worth the price. Details below if you want them.
If you like their so-called "rustic bread" with everything this is the pub for you. Every starter but one came with it. It is essentially a herby greasy oven baked pizza bread.
My family took me there for a treat. Obviously you cannot risk being ungrateful in these circumstances, so here is my belated appraisal of the food in this pub.
My father-in-law had the soup of the day. He said it was cold but refused to complain.
My starter of squid was very tiny.
The bread starters ordered by others in our party had no variety just huge chunks of the same herby pizza bread.
I like lamb on the rare side but parts of the "Lamb Duo" were almost raw meat and inedible for most people. To be fair the shepherd's pie part of it ( three of us had it) was lovely.
A few comments on the service.
On the plus side the staff were incredibly friendly. Now for the bad.
The table was laid with only one set of cutlery. You were expected to keep this for your starter and your main course. No replacements for offered. When we asked, they were cheerfully given. The rustic bread starters were given on a large plate with no side plates for individuals. When we asked for these they were cheerfully provided but chucked on the table in a pile and we were expected to distribute them amongst ourselves.
At around £5 per starter and £15 per main course I would not visit this pub again. It's a shame because the staff were charming but poorly trained and the food itself was...
Read moreWe went for lunch here and it was a terrible experience. The service was poor, we were waiting ages for our drinks. The drinks were sitting on the counter for ages, the ice was melting and when we asked the barman where the drinks were and why he didn't serve them to us when they were still sitting on the bar....he said that he thought we didn't want the drinks!! How could we not want the drinks when we ordered them?? Then when the food came, it was really poor quality. We ordered a steak for £20 and it wasn't cooked to how we asked....it was overcooked and chewy! When we complained about the food, we got a replacement steak which was worse than the first steak...It was chewy and grissly and tasted awful...When we complained to them all we got was defensive answers from the waiter and the manager....His answer was "we aren't a steak restaurant "...well why are they charging restaurant prices then and why are they serving steak when they don't know how to cook it properly?? Other steak restaurants charge even less than what they charge and they are 10 times better! The attitude of the manager was very poor. He was rude and arrogant and slow at serving....I will never come to this awful pretentious place again!! Avoid this place...
