Bush, Blackbird & Thrush — Restaurant in Tonbridge and Malling

It’s the second time we’ve tried this pub, first time they had Expresso Martini advertised on a chalk board so we gave it a go but they were awful and when we queried it they said the were made out of carton but the waitress couldn’t make them properly as the chef was unavailable but we gave it a second chance. I went into the pub with my husband and baby only to have people staring at us not saying anything so went over to the bar with my baby in the pram to say we had a booking and the barmaid was very rude to me and said ‘you need to go outside as you have a dog’ I wasn’t even trying to go inside I just wanted to tell them we were here so I said that and she replied in a rude manner ‘and I was just explaining darlin’ then we were told there was no table service outside even though no one was eating inside and only one table was eating outside. Very very rude staff, we will not be returning. The food was also very average so not worth being spoken to like that. You’d think they’d want...

We booked a table for four, only one had a starter the prawn cocktail, which was excellent. We all had different mains, all of which were also excellent, also pretty big portions so ensure you bring your appetite with you! The young waitress was polite and patient, though obviously a little inexperieced when it came to the wine list. The australian shiraz that we chose however was supurb. The deserts were unfortunatly not so good, the Baileys cheese cake was bland and the ice cream was full of ice crystals. The coffee and Baileys/ coffee and Irish whiskey were very good, really nice coffee, the booze speaks for it's self!! Over all the cost was about £140 for the four of us, so not to bad. We had previously been to the Bush, Blackbird & Thrush and regretfully didn’t publicly recommend it, though we certainly should have.

We visited on Saturday evening (12th Aug 2023) having made a reservation for a 4 person table, we were fortunate that the occupancy was around half capacity and consequently had no waiting time. We were shown to our table and provided plenty of time to decide on drink and meal choices. The food arrived in good time and was served at the perfect temperature, we had a variety of meals that included meat and fish.

We wouldn’t hesitate to return and offer thanks to our waitress who was very accommodating and friendly, as well as the chef for providing well presented and enjoyable meals.
