My husband and I spent three nights in the Devils Stone Inn and what an experience, from the minute we arrived, it was just amazing. Now under new management, the lovely couple who now own the Pub/B&B made us feel very welcome. If you don't mind getting off the beaten path, this little gem is worth it. Really was old school, right down to the rooms still using real keys, really added to the whole experience. One of the owners met us and took our luggage to our room and what a beautiful room it was too. Lovely interiors in keeping with the history of the Inn, made us feel like we were royalty. Room was excellent clean and everything you could have expected with the added bonus of plenty of storage. Our room overlooked the pretty village square with a beautiful church and the infamous Stone. Breakfast was amazing but the overall experience for us was the friendly atmosphere, the owners couldn’t do enough for us it was the best break ever. There is a wonderful garden with beautiful views which is well received after a day of walking. The central location means you can be in Bude, Cornwall in 25 mins or investigating the tiny local parishes nearby. The Inn is surrounded in history and is supposedly the most haunted pub in the UK, sadly the only noise I heard at night was my husband’s snoring! Well...
Read moreFood was good but overall experience appalling. We had our dog with us and she is anxious if dogs approach her off the lead. I didn’t realise it was legally allowed for dogs to be off the lead in public spaces. There were two dogs off the lead and both owned by one of the waitresses ( I assume ). Both of them just followed her around and wondered alone as well . Younger dog kept approaching our dog causing a distress ! Yet again she saw it all and barely recalled her dog , she kept coming back with both dogs even after I said how anxious she gets if approached by of lead dog ! We eventually walked in garden as thought we will just have our meal and leave. We would have left straight away but food was already on order . My partner bumped into her and again said how anxious our dog is, but she and her two dogs just wondered outside ( we were the only table outside as it was chilly ) and just wondered around for no apparent reason as food was brought out by another waitress ! I had to yet again explain situation and eventually she wondered back in ! I’m shocked , dogs should not be off the lead in public places and if we spend our money there , shouldn’t be in distress and not heard on...
Read moreWe visited th Devil Stone Inn last night to celebrate my husband's birthday. We all agreed that this was one of the best meals we've eaten in a very long time. We were staying in the area for the weekend but we would certainly recommend to others and we will be back to eat again. After the quality of today's food, i'd love to try a roast here!
The building is lovely, it was so busy but they managed to fit us in. The food took a little while but everything was freshly cooked and we were a larger group but 100% worth the wait!
The menu was great, lots of choice and all meals were generous sizes. We had nachos to share as a starter - I'd recommend giving these a try, they were delicious and very generous in size! Todays homemade pie (steak and ale) was incredible and just looked like an authentic home made meal. My husband said the burger was delicious! The prices were also great for the quality and meal size.
There were games and books which kept the children entertained whilst waiting for their food. The staff were all extremely welcoming and helpful.
