The King’s Arms may just be the perfect country pub. For starters, it sits in a pretty Devon village and has a gorgeous thatch. Once inside, what marketing kinds call its ‘kerb appeal’ is confirmed, and then some.

I visited for food on Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised to see it lively and full, as country pubs all seemed to be once upon a time. No wonder, because the stove was lit, the beams prettily made up with fairy lights, the beer was great, AND the food too!

Service here was very, very, very good. The landlord took it on himself to replace my beer free of charge when he realised my pint had been poured from near the bottom of the cask. I’d already drunk half of it without any complaints, but he wanted my drink to be perfect!

The waitress too, upon seeing I’d drunk from a handle glass, came over to ensure I had the same for my next pint. In fact, the two young ladies who served us as waitresses were both lovely, friendly, and wonderful.

The food was delicious. Jerk chicken wings and prawn jambalaya for me, prawn arancini and roasted lamb breast for my partner. I was going to wash it down with red wine but the landlord keeps such a good cellar that I remained with his beer.

Finally, there are apparently ghosts here, which is reason enough to return in the summer, when my YouTube channel featuring a haunted pub crawl will commence.

It’s a tough job, but someone...

Rip off!

Went here because we heard a few good things about it. Looked all very nice with a Valentine's menu. We had to pick ourselves back off the floor when a mere standard steak was nearly £25! My husband decided to order it as it was a special occasion and expected something special for the money. A tiny steak was presented, I've cooked better myself, a rather small portion of chips and a bit of garnish! Our starters came out with a bit of crusty bread each with no butter or spoons to eat the soupy part of the mussel starter. I had a chicken dish and the chicken was tough and chewy and the flavour of the dish was bland, I left most of it! The best part was the deserts! For all that lack of enjoyment we parted with getting on for £80! Considering this pub had recently changed hands (again)! the food quality for the money was appalling.Which is a real shame. They will not keep...

Booked in very late today for some food, and the girl I spoke to on the phone did her best to accommodate us.

Got a warm welcome even though we were close to the deadline for food, seated and ordered quickly.

Side notes: The barmaid was kind and attentive, had A LOT to do, as it was very busy. She still made time for my daughter who has special needs, had patience enough for my daughter to pay the bill, and receive the change, very heart warming.

There were a group of locals sat at the bar having a chat, which added to the ambience of the pub. It was a great experience.

The food has almost become a sidenote to the excellent service, which it should not be, because it was excellent. Me and my wife both had belly pork, the meat was moist and delicious, vegetables were perfectly cooked and the sauce was great! All good, a great...

Lovely village pub with great owners and staff - from original booking to dining, a very speedy service e.g. responded to booking request super quickly, never felt like you had to wait to order. Nice menu with some varying specials too, everything that came out of the kitchen smelt great! I had a battered Mars Bar for dessert, because when do you ever see that on the menu - sweet, chewy heaven. Drinks are very reasonably priced and good quality food and service. They are also doing very well to be Covid secure, a small pub, with well spaced out tables, felt very safe and would highly recommend if you are in the area.

Fantastic olde world pub in the middle of a quite little village. The outside area is very quaint but perfect to catch the sun all day if you want. Lovely staff who was a little rushed by herself but coped admirably. We all had the beer battered fish and chips, which was a truly generous portion and all freshly cooked. We went on a very hot, sunny day, and our dog really appreciated the tile flooring. Pub is very dog friendly. All in all, a most enjoyable lunch, and if you are nearby, do pop in. Kitchen closes at 1430 with the last food order 1415 for lunch.
