We went to The Crown on Saturday and was really impressed. As you walked in we were hit with warmth and atmosphere. It was busy, everyone looked like they were really enjoying the afternoon. You install felt like you have a village pub again!!
The pub feels clean, tidy and bigger than before. The work that’s been done has certainly made a difference. The pub has good separation - 1 side nice and open with a large TV with rugby on and plenty of tables and chairs. The other side felt cosy with nice sofas, but still plenty of space. Can’t wait for the fire to be blazing!
The bar looks great! A huge selection of drinks, including for the kids. Sweets and chocolate too! The wine & beer options are great, especially with Timothy Taylors on draft! There was loads of room and you didn’t have to queue which was good considering it was busy.
The service was fantastic. Served with a smile and a conversation! It’s great to see we have staff there that you can build a relationship with! It’s so important for a local village pub!
Pricing I felt was as expected. Not cheap, but certainly not expensive. Pint of £5.95. Large glass of decent wine was £11.50, but you could go for a cheaper alternative at £7.50.
Food was very good. At this stage the kitchen wasn’t operational yet, but there was still ploughman’s boards, hams, cheese etc, but also chips loaded fries! Absolutely enough for a quick visit to the pub! Hopefully in the future we have the option of pies and proper pub foods! Maybe a pie night midweek….?
The facilities were good. Clean, tidy, painted, like new really. Hand towels only, maybe be good to have a hand dryer in the toilets to save mess in bins.
It’s going to be great to see how the pub transforms over time - food options, sport on TV, dart board, theme nights (pie Thursday?), quiz night etc. Little things like this just make it a complete village pub!
Overall, after 11 years of being in Chilton, it does actually feel good to have a proper village pub. Well done everyone that got the pub to where it is in such a small space of time! Nailed it...
Read moreWell, I will choose words carefully because I chose to meet others in my family here as a halfway point. The website gives the impression of a beer drinkers paradise with locally sourced and diverse selections to choose from. When I arrived I was both surprised and disappointed to find that it was in fact a Greene King pub! Only 2 beers available neither of which would have been high on my list of those I would be interested in. I did have a pint of the Moreland bitter ( even though I know it doesn't really exist as it once did as it is a GK mass produced facsimile!) but it was not to my taste. The wine I had afterwards was ok and I have to say the carvery was ok, but I'm afraid I...
Read moreHad carvery with pork and chicken breast with stuffing wrapped in bacon. They also had lamb, but decided not to have it this time. The food was amazing and finished with a knickerbocker glory with fresh strawberries and tinned peach. Would highly recommend as the food is top quality with friendly staff in a lovely pub. Price is reasonable for £9.95 for carvery where you can fill your plate with roasted potatoes, mashed potatoes, boiled carrots, roasted parsnips, Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese and broccoli and lovely gravy.
