Where to start, we booked a table for 4, which only really suited 2/3 people tops, but the biggest issue would be Kim the server. (This was the name on the receipt, but incase this is an error, she had flowers tattooed on the inside of her arm)
Having requested something for a starter she proclaimed no they didn't offer it (garlic bread for anyone reading) I declined her suggestion of Garlic Mushrooms, to which she looked at our party and said very openly and directly, "you hit him, I can't"
I'm not sure who thinks Mushrooms are a decent alternative to bread?
After she left we all looked at each other, as if no one could believe she said that.
We ordered our mains, a chicken burger was ordered, to which Kim said "the Fish burger is nice" Fair enough we thought, but understandably we'd ordered a chicken burger, she then followed this with, a rather stern "i don't eat meat, so I can only comment on the fish burger" As if ordering a chicken burger had offended her in some way?
At this point, we all felt pretty awkward but continued, I'll leave out the bar staff openly swearing behind us..
Food arrived... soup served in a mug.. not the absolute worst issue, but a soup served with a FORK? Pretty terrible in all honesty.
Chicken burger was good, salad was OK, no real complaints with the overall food, other than the soup.
Kim returned to see if we would like a dessert, after looking at the menu we decided against it (£9 for a brownie)
Kim, again abruptly responded "ill get you the bill" to which we declined and asked for more drinks.
One of our party asked for water, one asked for another orange juice, Kim responded with "so just tap water"?
Our party resonded and asked for no ice in the orange juice, to which she replied "yeah i got that"
Such a shame, as the location is lovely with great views.
So, what did the Maybush get right, food was ok, but ultimately not adding the service charge on was the only thing I'd agree with; £130+ for 4 people? Not massively expensive, but better spent elsewhere.
Would appreciate the chance to discuss this with management, as Kim's "hit him" comment is quite frankly outrageous and since eating there, we have found out, has upset one of the guests more than first expected. To which they are now seeking advice through the...
Read moreWe have eaten at the Maybush many times, but today’s experience was actually awful. We came to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary as we got married there. We both ordered the pork roast that was advertised to come with crackling, potatoes and vegetables. The meal arrived and as the waitress put it on our table she said “I’m sorry we haven’t got any crackling we ran out yesterday.” My husband said politely “I only ordered it for the crackling” (she just looked at him), he was actually serious, and had we been told it didn’t come with crackling, we would have ordered something else. The vegetables were very hard and I don’t mean al dente, which we love. We could barely cut them with the knife! My husband’s plate arrived cracked, which he mentioned to the waitress, and again she just looked at him! The gravy tasted like cheap Bisto, and the applesauce was definitely not home-made, and tasted like a cheap bought in version.
We decided we wouldn’t complain because we don’t generally, but when the waitress asked if everything was ok as we were paying the bill, My husband said well apart from the missing crackling! She said “I did tell you it was missing”, for which I replied, “Yes only when you put the food on our table so it was a bit late by then!” She told us the bill and we said “how about we give you £5 less as we didn’t get what we paid for” (we were paying with cash). She said “Crackling is only about 5 - 10p!” We couldn’t believe it, so we gave her that £5 and there was still 20p owing. My husband said I’m not giving you any more and she still tried to get the 20p out of us and as we were leaving she was mumbling something that we didn’t hear!! All in all, very disappointing food...
Read moreThe location of the Pub is wonderful, but just the location. We order „Maybush Beef Burgers”. I was expecting a proper burger, but instead of that I got something that pretended to be a burger. The meat was disgusting. I’m almost certain that it was a mixture of beef and pork of poor quality. Second option is that the beef was factory made with a lot of artificial ingredients. The colour of burger was artificial pink. The taste of this “meat” was just salty and leathery…. The bun was cold and not particularly nice. Only the vegetables looked fine. I would say it is a good place for a beer with beautiful surroundings. Nothing more.
—————————————————————————————- In response to The Owner’s response:
My opinion is based on what you gave us on the plates. My experience is more important for me that yours previous reviews here. Even if they are extremely high it means nothing for me at this moment. And believe me - what we had in our burgers wasn’t “high quality beef”. Maybe I was wrong and it wasn’t a mixture of beef and pork it still didn’t change that the taste, colour and structure of burgers was not right. I really know what proper burger should look like. Your burgers are made buy some factory and defrosted.. The burger from fresh meat never looks like yours. Never. Even if it’s true what you say…why your stuff doesn’t ask us how well should the burger be done? Even though I asked for one of the burgers to be medium well done and the other well done, we received two burgers looking exactly the same… So, please don’t call it „slander”, I’m far from it. My opinion is my...
