Lovely place for food, in particular! Theres loads of parking and street parking. The staff are welcoming and plentiful; we didn’t have to wait long, even at lunch, Sunday 12:30 The atmosphere was good. I didn’t notice any music on reflection; just the business of the place. That said, everyone is spaced well and it doesn’t feel stuffy. The menu is classically British and full of lovely choices, all of which look stunning when they come out. I had rosemary roasted chicken with red wine jus which was tender, and a very nicely-sized portion. The food was hot throughout and hasn’t been left standing. Desert was a crumble, apple and raspberry. It was tart, sweet and had crunch to the crumble. The custard was lovely. Very nice indeed. Those plus a pot of tea were less than £30 with a tip; not bad for good quality food! Upstairs they have a pizza oven and my friend says they are delicious stone baked pizzas. Outside there’s about 10 double-sided benches with large brollies; it was drizzling but we were dry and it was scenic!

Lovely lunch. I had lunch from the lighter lunch menu. Two courses for £15.95 or one course £11.95. Started with carrot and cumin soup. Absolutely delicious. You could taste the lovely toasted cumin. Wish I had a main lunch of this soup only. Main course was fish pie. Which was nice, type of pie expected for a lunchtime special. Served in an oven dish, topped with mashed potatoes Companion had Yorkshire pudding starter from the main menu. Said the onion gravy was lovely. Main course was gammon. Gammon was lovely and had been cooked in griddle giving a nice charring. Lost one star, as the chips served with the gammon were shop bought oven chips and somewhat disappointing. Come on chef. Home made chips would raise this to another level, especially if they were in beef dripping. Maybe the chef with read this and ditch the shop bought oven chips.

It was too crowded and all the tables are very close together. You basically have to try talk over the conversation next to you and behind you to be able to hear your companion. The food is amazing, can recommend the chicken and the pork. Only issue is when someone orders a prawn sizzler (and many people did) they bring it out actually sizzling, then stand there holding it until it isn't spitting as much. The problem with this is it smells absolutely revolting, like burnt food. It filled the whole place with smoke and steamed up all the windows every time and unfortunately all my clothes and my hair smelt of the smoke! For that reason me and my partner said we would never go back despite how good the food is. Staff weren't very attentive either and seemed to bypass us as much as possible so it took ages to get a drink and the check.

Arrived at the pub with a pre booking for a 50th birthday meal. We was alittle early so the table was not ready, as expected. We was happy to wait and pointed in the direct of the bar, while waiting to get served most of the party got drinks but the staff did not seem to be in any rush to serve. As I thought I was going to get served another family approached the bar and the staff member just ignored I was there and went to serve the other family which had just walked to the bar !! I felt this was really rude and it wasent just myself but 4 other people from our party waiting to get served !! We was seated at the table and began choosing what we wished to eat... we was left for several minutes where most of the party had finished their drinks and was happy to order food and another drink ! The waitress came and took our order but didn't ask if anyone would like another drink. Food seemed to take a little while to arrive, starters were alittle while and mains took alot longer. Through the whole time being there we was never asked if our food was OK and never asked if we would like anymore drinks. Then when the bill came the price was alot more than expected. Finding out that they had changed the price of their food but was still using the old menu for the prices, when asking the staff about the extra charges, they replied "oh yes we know about that" Which is wrong and you should update your menu if the prices do not match the bill ! The staff seemed to be dismissive, they did sort it but it took a long while and there was no apology. Left...

We went for Sunday lunch today for the first time..we booked a table for 4 people a week previous, we were told by friends to book first. We waited a while for our booked table but did get there earlier than the booking time so wasn't a problem. Very busy at 12.30 but staff were really good and made us feel welcome. On being seated we chose the carveries and went to get our food ...next to the carvery was a group of people having drinks at a table right next to where you que for your food and they refused to acknowledge we were there, I asked if they would mind moving a little as we wanted to get our food, they moved an inch ..my old mam and dad being knocked and unable to get to the carvery properly. Very rude people who should have moved without being asked out of respect for my old parents. I thought maybe a daft place to put a table next to the carvery. Other than that gripe the carvery chef was excellent polite and really helpful like all the staff there...shame about the regulars...the food was fantastic the meat was perfect..we all enjoyed and all pleased. Can you please do something about the group's of people blocking the carvery ...common sense to move in my world but obviously some people are rude and downright disrespectful. .I would recommend this inn fully but it has put us off a bit returning due to the lack of space at the carvery ...it...

Wow this is a first, we walked into the pub and was met by one of the staff. We received a reception frosty enough to freeze hell over, no greeting at the door, was just asked if we had booked.

We then were told we had to wait at the bar because they didn't have a free table despite there being ample room for us to be seated.

The bar staff were absolutely useless tbh, she didn't even know what elderflower drinks were available and we had to point out that there was one available in the mini fridge. Just poor.

We were finally seated after the lackluster intro then left 15 minutes waiting with no update on when our order would be taken. We then politely asked what the wait time would be to which the server replied it will take as long as it will take and you can leave if you want and there's no need to be rude. The irony was eye watering

Worst customer service I've not just received in a pub but in any hospitality situation. Outrageously bad. If I were the owner I'd be taking a serious look at the staff training and 100% layoff the leading team member.

Go to the Wentbridge hotel and see how it's done...
