The number of menu options suggests that the meals are from frozen, or from prepared bags, but they're ok and priced fairly. The giant Yorkshire puddings, however, were all over-baked, to the point of tasting slightly burnt. The roasts were tasty, but soggy, lacking crispness.
Fresh apple juice ordered on two separate occasions turned out to be made from an artificial syrup, but despite stressing that we wanted fresh, the same artificial squash was brought out again.
Similarly, when asking for a Pepsi or Coke, a revolting non brand of cola syrup was used in their tap system. I think that if you ask for a branded drink, you should get a branded drink. They should have been upfront about it being a non branded mixer tap syrup. No bottled Pepsi or Coke was available.
A misunderstanding with one order saw it being taken back to the kitchen FOUR times. Unfortunately, it was the person's 80th birthday meal.
The staff didn't listen or didn't care, with one of them unable to prevent herself raising her eyes as she walked away. The service was slap-dash and insulting. A single table waiter/waitress would have been a huge benefit. A different waiter served us for the pudding and payment, which seemed like the two previous waitresses
For that reason, I didn't dare order a pudding.
Hugh Jackman ate here a year or two ago and apparently he loved it. Maybe they pulled the stops out for him, or he was just being polite.
None of us thought we would return, which is a shame, because the mistakes all came down to poor management. Individually, they wouldn't have been an issue, but there was so many that it ruined the treat we had meant to give. The food wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either and on a price level, was reasonable.
Small tweaks to consistent plate sizes and service and greater honesty regarding drinks would make all the difference.
The chances are that you will get a reasonable service with none of the issues we had. I'm assuming we were just really unlucky.
Recommended as a cheap, basic pub eatery, but don't expect much in the...
Read moreWell what can I say, what a amazing place. I frequently visit the New Inn as it's such a welcoming place and the food is such a high quality. So when it came to booking somewhere for my mum's 70th it was the obvious choice. I booked Lock Eleven which is a private dining area, that also has an amazing outdoor terrace. From the moment I booked I cannot fault the service, I was called in advance to check on the booking and if we had any requirements, they explained that we could have the room all evening. I also asked if they could provide cheese boards that are not on the menu and it wasn't an issue at all, they were so accommodating. The young Man who served us (apologies for forgetting his name) was outstanding, he was attentive, hard working, polite. and had unbelievable PATIENCE? 🫣Having worked in the pub industry years ago, staff like him are hard to find. He went above and beyond to help out. As I want to leave an honest review, I need to mention that unfortunately the food took a long time to arrive (this could be because we did order later than anticipated), and some of the food was a little overcooked. What I will say though, as soon we mentioned it, the overcooked food was taken away and replaced quickly. The staff couldn't apologise enough. The rest of the order was outstanding, portion sizes are above par, and quality of ingredients shows through, it has to be as I have a very fussy partner and he had no complaints, which rarely happens. Even the waiting did not spoil the evening, I would highly recommend The New Inn for any occasion. Our waiter deserves a pay rise, or at...
Read moreNot Good. One star for a couple of the staff. Firstly, why is it that pubs and restaurants don't have a selection of 0% alcohol beers. This place has 1 lager and 1 cider. No ale or stout or even a choice of lagers...... it's just one! There is a vast choice of quality 0% beers available on the market, so not offering a choice is either lazy or they don't really care.👎
The quality of food here does not match the prices being charged. At £12 for a steak sandwich, one would expect it to be edible at least. The steak looked good but was so tough that we could not actually chew it.....flavourless and grisly. It was described on the menu as being served on 'farmhouse' bread. The farmhouse must be called Tesco because it was toasted white sliced! The halloumi and pepper sandwich should have been named as a pepper sandwich as the piece of cheese was about as thin as a Kraft cheese slice. After mentioning to staff that the steak was inedible, we were given a discount on the sandwich only.........not a refund, a discount despite it being obvious that the only thing eaten on the plate was the chips. All in all, a very poor experience and one we we will never risk being repeated. Too many places are now like this establishment, charging high prices for mediocre to poor quality food and this is one...
