Always heard that the spread had great food...But never came as it was in the opposite direction to me. Today decided to come for lunch.

Upon entering it was a cosy laid back pub, which I loved... I hate pubs where it's full of loud people drinking for their lives!

We got seated by the window in the bar area and opted for a Sunday lunch,. A pie bar snack, extra veg, and two desserts.

What I didn't know at the time was the waiting time. Be warned there is a long wait for food. I was later told that it is because they are very popular and the kitchen is very small so it's hard to pump out high volumes of food... But trust me... It was worth the wait.

The belly pork which the waitress helped me choose over beef was delicious, vegetables cooked just right, roast potato soft and full of flavour and that Yorkshire pudding... It was so light and fluffy!!!

Partners chicken and leek pie snack... That was so tasty as well... Normally they can be dry but this one at the Spread was full of flavour moist and the pastry again yummy.

We ordered dessert, I can never resist a creme brulee ...And I'm biased I will always say every creme brulee is good!!!

My partner got the sticky toffee pudding...To me I'm like pah, no thanks...But wow... Would I be training my creme brulee if I said the sticky toffee pudding was better ! It was sweet but not sickly. It had. A great moist chew to it and the quality of the ice cream... And ingredients used in the home made food was excellent

The young waitresses ... Don't be biased. Yes they are young but you can tell they live working there. And knowledgeable.

Highly recommend

I have found another one of my top fav places to eat in the world

Thank you The spread, compliments to the chef today and the staff...

On a work trip, were staying nearby at the Wentbridge Hotel. Having become exhausted by hotel food, we were desparate for something better. My colleagues are fussy southern b*ggers so whine at the slightest food discrepancy. I personally just look for good value and something that doesn't give me the squirts or block my passages.

By luck, we came across the SPREAD.

The reviews give the impression that this place has great food. On walking in, you're not totally sure the reputation will be justified. The boss started grumbling and we thought about leaving.

Once seeing the menu though, things get more interesting and promising.

Suffice to say my fussy colleagues thought they had found heaven and started referring to "plates of food" - a common southern thing inspired by dumb food programmes on TV. If a southerner calls something a "plate of food", it means it's special. They were saddened that we couldn't visit again because home time was approaching.

And, yes, the food is special. Great presentation, great taste and great value.

Finally, the sticky toffee pudding is "to die for", or have a slight hernia for. The "swiss" ice cream was also good, apparently, as was the creme brulee.

The staff? Great and attentive with customary Yorkshire friendliness and accents to boot.

The chef - brilliant and...

Arrived early evening not having booked a table but the waitress found us a table even though the restaurant was very busy. I had the pate which was delicious, Dave had potato and leek soup which was a large bowlful accompanied by a big baguette. I ordered the Special - Fish pie with creamed leeks, it was the last one. Dave had the belly pork - (yuk!) But he really enjoyed it. Very busy pub/restaurant with a great selection with most of the usuals at reasonable prices. I'm sure we will go again.
