The Station Pub — Restaurant in Wakefield

Great value for money!! On arrival on a Wednesday 4pm. All tables inside are reserved, so that's a good sign it had a good reputation. Sat outside, really nice day. Atmosphere was fun, busy, and many different families with dogs and children roaming about. Unfortunately, you can't order online or app, and you do have to walk round to the bar to order (no table service), which is the only reason I gave it 4-star service. The staff were polite and great. Inside was clean, spacious, and plenty of places to sit. It is a place that is really family orientated. We ordered the Crazy Burger and Lasagne Verdi (with Jacket & Salad). (See pictures) The food came out relatively quickly. The patty and the chicken were pretty big, and the heaviness to it was a decent portion. The chips were proper chips!! You can tell they were homemade. Lasagne was tasty. Nothing was overdone or underdone. The value for your money goes a long way here. You could even split the plate up and have someone eat the jacket and the other eat the Lasagne as they were great portions. We booked a table three weeks before we arrived for an 80th birthday celebration on a Saturday at 2pm. They said dogs were allowed when we booked, but found out they were only allowed in the bar, not the restaurant where they had booked us in (you wouldnt want to eat in the bar on a special occasion). When we went to order at the bar, they said we would have to wait 1h 30mins for food, but neither the restaurant or bar were busy at all....it was as if they didn't want to serve us and wanted to go home. We were flabbergasted and annoyed, but had no other option but to stay as we had two 80 year olds with us and were unlikely to find another suitable option. I find it totally unacceptable that when we have booked a table in a pub restaurant we are are told to wait 1h 30mins for food, I could have understood it if we were a 'walk in' and they were busy. I visited today with my other half and again wasn't disappointed. Although they were extremely busy due to the 50% Eat In scheme, the food was as always a great standard and the staff were amazing. You could see how much they care and want to provide excellent service, as they are so popular they had to turn people away due to such high demand. After to speaking to staff about how they had been getting on I was so upset to find that they had had some negative feedback due to people having to wait. This is a very difficult time we find ourselves in and people should be more understanding. When we arrived today, if we had been told the food was an 1hours wait then so be it.
