First of all, booking this afternoon tea for a party size of 16 was such a headache. It took 6 members of staff to confirm if they can cater the party size and then I was told that they would take full payment as a deposit (ÂŁ25). I was told that it is due to the 'new system' which clearly no member of staff has been trained on and that people have walked out without paying previously - likely due to the lack of service and overall experience. As for the day of the event, it went from bad to worse. We arrived in a private room, it was beautiful and lovely set up, however that was probably the only good thing. Food arrived the second we got there, we had no time to sit and chat and the sandwiches were hard on the outside, and let's just say it was lacking quantity - we only had two finger sandwiches per person. I've been to other afternoon teas and you get a lot more for your money. We then had no drinks to go with the food, we were told that they needed to refill the water urn and wait for it to boil. I booked this two months in advanced, they new we were coming and should have been ready. Afternoon tea with no tea. We waited an hour before the tea actually arrived, we had already eaten the food with no beverage. No one apologised for the lack of drinks, no one came to ask if we wanted anything else, it was that we had to wait. When the tea finally arrived, we had no cups with it, which we had to request as the tea was getting cold and only a few were brought that we had to nag for more. We ordered prosecco which arrived unopened and 20 minutes later with no glasses, which we had to ask for and then 3 arrived for two bottles. We needed at least 7 more. Coffee arrived, but we had no milk, which we again had to get ourselves due to it going cold. When I went to speak to someone about our experience and complain that we had to wait an hour for a cup of tea, their answer was 'we did tell you that our urn was empty and we needed to refill it in order to make the tea', a kettle would have been bloody faster and they knew there was a large table having afternoon tea that it should have been ready for in time for the arrival. There were a few people sat on the lawn but inside was practically empty, so the excuse was pathetic. The staff haven't the faintest idea on how to cater in a restaurant. They need to have a lot more training. The supervisor needs to be more respectful and she should have been checking on us as we were paying over ÂŁ400 for the occasion and as this was for a hen party, it ruined the day. Also, no one was on the tills when I went to pay and I could have easily walked out without paying and honestly wanted to. This experience was for a hen party and all we wanted was good service and lovely food but it lacked any service as we had to do most the work by asking. The fact we needed to nag so much and ask for basic stuff, like a cup was so unorganised. The food was lovely but the service, the experience, the lack of food and the organisation of the day was dreadful. I wouldn't advise anyone going there for a party. I've read many reviews since the event and found that it is due to 'lack of staff' but it was quiet when we were there and we still weren't checked on and just had excuse...

From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the mill's picturesque setting. The beautiful stone building, surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sounds of the nearby stream, made for a perfect tranquil getaway. The atmosphere was peaceful and welcoming, making it an ideal spot to unwind.
The staff at Black Pool Mill were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They went out of their way to make our visit enjoyable, providing interesting insights into the mill's history and answering all our questions with enthusiasm.
The food was another highlight. We enjoyed a delicious meal at their on-site restaurant, which featured locally sourced ingredients and a menu that catered to various tastes. The dishes were beautifully presented and full of flavor. I highly recommend trying their homemade cakes â they were the perfect treat to complement the relaxing ambiance.
Black Pool Mill is also a great spot for families. The kids enjoyed exploring the grounds and learning about the history of the mill. The on-site shop offered a variety of local products and souvenirs, making it easy to take a piece of this charming place home with us.

Read moreWe had an early dinner here last evening, our second visit after a very lovely first meal. We were quickly greeted and shown to our table. Waitress sat us down with news that there was ânone leftâ of the starter we were looking forward to, samphire and crab salad. How can this be at 6.30pm? Waiter came quickly to take our drinks order, we wanted a bottle of RosĂ©. We asked which was the driest, to be told âall our RosĂ©âs are sweetâ. I challenged the waiter on this, as we felt it couldnât be the case, however, he returned from checking to confirm they WERE all sweet. We consequently order a glass of white and a beer. We ordered our meals, and the starters were promptly delivered. Egg ânâ soldiers was very nice, Cauliflower Pakora very disappointing. Main courses again were prompt, my wife had sea bass dish, very tasty but paltry sized fillet for ÂŁ30. I had lamb and leek dhansak, which again was very tasty, but couldnât find any leeks, and the ratio of sauce to rice was very poor. Overall, this restaurant is a very pleasant eatery, with attentive (but not knowledgeable) staff. This meal though, has left us not wanting to return. Checked wines online once home and found 3 were dry and one medium,...
