My father and I visited the place a few weeks ago after receiving a few rave reviews from family/friends. ...😬 We'd specifically gone here as we'd been told - and it stated on the website also that it was dog friendly. The dog friendly area was outside...it was a pretty windy day when we went and well....all the sugar sachets etc (it was also boiling hot but the parasols were all folded up)...I'm sure you can guess 🤦. I went in and ordered two coffees and requested some water for the dog which was provided to me in a massive old ice cream tub on a tray along with the coffees.... I use a walking stick...the hand is my left that I have to use for carrying stuff, it is my weak hand, I also have hyper mobility disorder. I still can't believe I managed to make it out of the cafe, down the steps and around the back of the building... without hoofing everything everywhere tbh. Two people passing by on bikes were really kind and offered to help but in all honesty I was flustered and I just hate having strangers seeing me struggle like that...so I forged ahead. Is there no easier way of doing this? I won't be returning due to it being too much hassle...there are plenty of dog friendly places (where there are spaces for the dogs inside and not having to battle the elements) to have a coffee locally - thankfully, so we'll just cross this one off the list for us. It might be worth bearing things in mind for future mobility challenged dog lovers. Dog also...
Read moreWe visited for the Peppa Pig breakfast.
We were welcomed promptly and with a smile, and quickly seated with a great window seat. Service was quick - both to order food and the time from ordering to it arriving.
However, we paid £15 a child for the event. For this, my son had a small breakfast and drink and a chance to meet Peppa. I feel it was slightly over-priced for that, but my main disappointment was that the “games and entertainment” advertised was one game of pass the parcel with Peppa, and not every child got to open the parcel and receive a gift. I don’t understand this as every child would have booked and the numbers of children attending would have been known. The fact there was a pile of milkybars ready to be handed out to kids who didn’t get to open the parcel afterwards shows the organisers knew this was the case. It was also hard to watch as the kids who were impatiently screaming or crying were given the chance to open the parcel and children like mine, who sat quietly and patiently passing the parcel around were left to pick up a chocolate bar at the end through their tears!
We would come back to watch the planes and for the brilliant service from staff but I don’t think we would attend an event due to the feeling it was overpriced and the fact the one game played didn’t involve everyone and left my...
Read moreGreat spot for watching the Beluga but very little other traffic into Hawarden unless there's a stop over for an airshow. The cafe has plenty of seating inside and out, a kids play area and access to Beluga bank for the best views of takeoffs from runway 04. Tables can be reserved. While the service was friendly, it was slow. Perhaps the omelette was low priority as others ordering full English were served, finished and out the door before our order arrived. Also, the white coffee came without milk but, to be fair, it was busy at the time, mistakes happen. The quality of food was good and prices very reasonable especially considering there's nothing else in the area. The car parking is also free so is a far cheaper alternative day out to Manchester! The Beluga itself is an amazing aircraft and watching it take off and land is impressive . Before you arrive, check the times on the Beluga Hawarden Facebook page or Flight Radar. There's generally no flights on weekends or bank holidays . If youre doing a land away from another airport, it's one of the best airfield cafes I've been to. If Hawarden is your home airfield, it's a nice spot for a cuppa and flight planning ....or escaping to when the weather...
