Nice coffee shop at the back, through a lovely garden centre. Wide selection of cakes and drinks, cafe was quite busy. Cakes were very tasty and fresh, covered until selected. Alas, this is where the I must mention the staff, there was one member to whom our presence was an inconvenience. I was here with my three children from 10 months to 9 yrs, the kids (including the baby) were well behaved and quiet. Whilst I queued each I item I asked for was greeted with a huff! I put this down to it being busy so upped my game, trying to assist with extra politeness.
The part that really infuriated me was that my 7 yo required a fork for her cake, I checked and could see none avaliable for us to use, so I asked her to go and ask at the counter, without prompt, she joined the back of the queue and waited her turn! Alas, when she got to the front of the 4 person line she asked for a fork and waited... And waited.... And waited.... Finally after several minutes of watching the staff ignore her and serve adult paying customers, I went to the counter and politely enquired if there was an issue, she said she had asked them but they had not heard her. I would fully expect better service from a public facing company especially when dealing with young and old. With me by her side she was quickly given a fork.
One final grumble was that at 1530 on a Saturday afternoon, half the seating area was closed off with no explanation, thankfully we were able to get a table with 3 seats.
Will try again with the venue in the future with the hope that it was circumstantial and improvements are...
Read moreLast time we visited, the cafe was really busy and we didn’t have a great experience. We thought we’d give it another go and this time we were the only customers so no excuses. Immediately it felt uninviting when reading signs on the booths saying only parties of 4 can sit there, no caveat about busy periods (which is completely understandable, if there’s nowhere else to sit) It just comes across as a bit rude. The food would’ve been ok if it was properly cooked but we had a lot of chewy uncooked rind on the bacon, partially cooked sloppy egg whites which is a big no no for me, fried tomato looked cooked on the outside but still crunchy inside, toast which must’ve been shown the toaster from the other side of the kitchen and tepid baked beans. I know we’re in an energy crisis but some things you can’t cut corners on. My wife had a breakfast bap, she opted for no egg because she doesn’t like them but no offer of swapping for another item, the remaining fillings didn’t even reach the edges of the bap, 1 rasher of bacon and 1 sausage cut in half for £7.50! My below average full English was a tenner! I really wanted to enjoy the breakfast but the quality really doesn’t warrant the...
Read moreSo on a whim decided one morning to see what was here for food, and have to say wasn't disappointed with what was served. I had a cooked breakfast with the usual suspects, sausage, egg, hash brown, mushroom, bacon and beans with the nicest toast I've tasted with a breakfast no joke (and they gave you enough real butter to actually butter it). My wife had toasted tea cakes which looked awesome and apparently tasted it too. Now we also indulged in brownie cakes with mini eggs ontop and a slice of coconut and lime cake which was really good. It was served quickly and the drinks were great too hot chocolate and americano. The staff were friendly and the layout was nice and rustic, big wooden tables made for a great visit. We have found a new gem here and will...
