Fantastic spot for food, drinks, and atmosphere! We had a great experience at The Corner House — stopped in for drinks and lunch and were really impressed. The food was excellent, portions are massive and the atmosphere of the pub is just what you’d hope for: cozy, welcoming, and full of character. Note: unless you are absolutely starving, look at the ‘small eaters” portion of the menu! Wayne, the owner, clearly runs a top-notch place. The selection of spirits and draft beers is outstanding, with something for everyone. Highly recommended! Just a heads-up: it’s popular, so it’s best to call ahead for lunch or dinner reservations to make sure you get a table.

(October 2019) Lovely food with a large selection to choose from. With friendly and professional staff. As a party of five, we were taken to a more private area (a table seated for about seven), and that privacy was wonderful. I hope to return there in the near future..... And we did! In January 2020. It was jam packed with customers, it is certainly a very popular place due to the excellent quality of food, reasonable prices, atmosphere, and custom.

Stunning out of town pub. Food was lovely yet again. The portions are large to say the least.... Visited last week for my parents golden wedding anniversary. And again this evening for a dinner date... The owners are very friendly and make you feel welcome.... Will definitely be visiting again.

Avoid at all costs!! We booked a table of 14 in advance for a birthday. We where shown to two separate tables, when questioned the owner said you would have been told on booking (we where not!). We felt unwelcome from the off, being told that we had 15 minutes to order our food otherwise we where not aloud to order. Some of our party where still struggling to park (due to the tiny car park available) and therefore hadn’t even sat down yet. As soon as the whole party arrived, we were swiftly asked to order and felt pressured into ordering straight away (not having chance to read the full menu). I suggest that in future if this restaurant can not sit a large party together or handle a large booking then they should not take such a booking. Another option perhaps; previous restaurants have asked us to pre book meals the day before as we are such a large party, this would be a far nicer option than putting a large party under pressure to order immediately. We where then also told that again because we where two tables that we would have to separate bills, at this point we just found the experience laughable. We then proceeded to order. Duck bon bons on the menu sounded lovely and quite a few of our party fancied these. After taking 5 orders they proceeded to tell other they where now out of stock. In hind sight, with such a rush to get menu orders in perhaps one of the staff members could have pre informed us of any items which were low in stock before ordering. (This also may not have been an issue had we been offered a pre order service). A few members of our party ordered the pie, very disappointing! The filling was cold and pastry under done on all of the pies ordered. Despite this all of the other food was amazing and perhaps we could have forgotten about the experience thus far however, the experience was about to get a whole lot worse. Desserts came out very intermittently with some people finishing theirs before others had been served. After 20 minutes or so the desserts had stopped arriving and the youngest member of our party (4 years old) was left without his ice cream. We where not asked if everything was ok with the desserts and had to leave the table, and fetch a member of staff from the bar (they where all crowded around the owner’s phone watching something) to get the missing ice cream. There was no apology for the missing ice cream. There where signs up which stated that under 16s had to be off the premises by 9pm however, as 9pm passed a member of staff took a drinks order from us without mention of us having to leave or the kids for that matter. We where then left for 20 minutes without offer of getting us the bill. At 20 past 9 we where then told quite rudely by a staff member “I have been asked to remind you that children should not be on the premises any longer and they need to leave” to which we replied why where we served drinks, left alone for 20 minutes without offer of anything further or the bill. When paying the bill my father-in-law mentioned that it was a bit silly to serve us drinks if the children had to leave and that a bit of nice customer service and a reminder of the time might have been nice. At which point the owner stormed off towards the kitchen shouting what a "f**g pk" as he went. Our table with these young children on being right by the kitchen door! When called out on such a way to speak about a customer we were met with confrontation from the owner and of course no apology for the profound language! We spent as a large table over £400 that night and to be called that in ear shot of all customers was appalling. Perhaps we would have been out before 9pm had the desserts all arrived in a timely manner and a drinks order not taken after 9pm. We were hoping to return after really enjoying the other meals (not the pie) however, due to this experience I would never ever recommend this place to anyone! We wish we read the other reviews before booking. It seems a regular occurrence for large parties to feel un welcome and for the...

Had a table booked for 8 people for a birthday celebration on 28/10/22 and Felt unwelcome as soon we arrived. Was shown to our table in “the cage” (not exactly an appealing name is it?). We Had a birthday cake but was told by the staff that the couldn’t even touch it because of covid regulations so I could put it in the display case myself and we could collect it we needed it. If covid was such an issue why didn’t I see any of the staff in masks or sanatise their hands at any point?

Sat down and started chatting as you do when the staff told us that we had to order within 15 minutes of sitting or they couldn’t put our orders in. Taken aback a bit we looked at the menus and made our selections quickly as we were being watched. The salmon was ordered and as meant to come with asparagus but was told there was none available. When the waitress was asked what was being served with it instead she just said “nothing, it’ll just come without”. She was then asked if the £1.50 supplement for the sweet potato fries could be waived in lieu of the asparagus and was told “I doubt it, I’ll ask but if they say yes it’ll be a miracle!” Turns out no miracle was to come as the request was denied.

A few ordered starters and they came out relatively quickly however the pate was embarrassingly tiny, it is literally served in a ramekin that you would usually be served a sauce in, just bigger than a thimble.

While the starters were being eaten, we were ‘checked on’ at least 8 times in about 15 minutes, which made the entire table feel on edge, ruched and like we had overstayed our welcome even though we hadn’t been there half hour at this point. When we had finished the starters they couldn’t wait to collect the plates, not that they went out of their way to get the plates, they just gestured at as to pass them down the table so they didn’t have to move. Again, the mains came out quite quickly albeit on cold plates. But not only was there a fly in one of the kids food, the salmon missing the asparagus but also the dauphinois. At this point we’d had enough so sent the meal back that had added insect and just dealt with the rest of the issues. Not only were we being watched again while we were eating, half way through the meal another waitress came over to take the salt, pepper, and vinegar set off the table because they had to be “changed over”. When it was time to get the cake (myself obviously, of course they couldn’t touch it) the bar man was very helpful and organised to get us a lighter from the kitchen. When the waitress came back she said the kitchen needed it straight back and stood right next to us until we had finished lighting the candles.

All in all, the food was lovely but it was a shambles of an experience. I can’t blame the staff because they were only doing as they have been told and shown how to behave. I have worked in restaurants the majority of my working life including very well known and high end restaurants and I would be absolutely ashamed if my staff acted the way these did. Whom ever is pretending to manage / run this place seriously need to look at themselves because if you are allowing this level of disservice to continue then hospitality is not for you! Feel...

DO NOT RECOMMEND unless you want to be rudely told that you need to leave mid meal as it’s gone 9 and you have an under 16 year old as part of your party!!

Never have I ever experienced being spoken to so rudely and have to leave a meal so abruptly !!!

It all started when we arrived and was informed that we will lose our non refundable deposit of £5 because a 3 year old did not attend!!! When we explained that he was only three we were told that whoever took our booking should not have taken a deposit for him but still would not get it back as it’s “non refundable”! Anyway….

The 8 of us then went and took our seats and the waitress who was lovely, happily took our order for drinks, starters, mains and was then offered a dessert board, as we were all about to order the same women from when we first arrived walked past our table and said you do know you have to leave, I asked even mid meal? she said yes you got to leave, and pointed to a sign saying their licence isn’t for under 16’s after 9 we also mentioned that we were originally suppose to have a 3 year old with us and she responded that he wouldn’t have been served!!

We then had to inform our waitress who come to take our dessert order that we weren’t allowed to order and had to leave to which she apologised.

At no point through booking, or arriving or throughout our meal were we advised of this despite booking a 7.30 meal with 2 children!

I understand they hold a license to which they must abide by however, to be informed of this in the rude manner we were, was absolutely disgusting and we will most certainly not be attending again!!

What an awful upsetting way to end graduation celebrations, such a shame!!

Thankfully, at least the ÂŁ5 for a three year old was sorted and we received the...
