Myself and my wife have been regulars of the Cross Foxes for many years being locals and the food, atmosphere and service have always been first class.
We have not visited for over a year due to my wife's illness so we thought that we would visit a few of our old favourites.
What an absolute crying shame. The foxes looks like it is under new management and they have totally destroyed the country pub feel that the foxes had into now a burger and beer joint with loud TV and music and I noticed that none of the usual locals were in there.
If you are visiting the area and you want a lovely country pub to dine and relax in, avoid the cross foxes as it's now more like your typical town pub that you might find in Wrexham centre.
The Boat at Erbistock is quite close to the foxes and has it all, amazing location on the river, beautiful food relaxing atmosphere and best of all NO TV !
Quite sad at how new management can destroy a pub and I have laid a £50 bet with god that the foxes will have new management again when the existing management start losing money as they have got this so wrong.
Tip - Once you have the locals to a pub avoiding a pub, that's the downturn.
as expected after meeting the new owners, I am called a liar in the same condescending manner as they reply on all of their social media.
And please do not compare yourselves with the Boat as we mentioned how the cross foxes has gone downhill and they agreed with one staff member saying that the foxes has been turned into a drinkers pub and 'downmarket'.
If you want to appeal to the type of customer who wants "pub grub for the masses", TV for the lads and your average estate family on a trip out, good luck with that, but I would rather experience the "class" of the Boat.
Whoever is writing your answers on social media and google needs to learn how to engage with customers.
When you are gone, the locals will be back ! Estimation from looking how you lowered the tone of the Foxes, about a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI used to come here years ago and it was lovely. I wouldnāt come again after tonight.
I had bruschetta - this was one tiny slither of extremely salty bread with just sliced tomato, basil olive oil and again more salt. That was not bruschetta. This cost nearly Ā£9! Whoever made this dish thought, do you know what, whatās the least amount of effort I can get away with doing and make the most money out of it. It actually made me sick looking at how pathetic it was for the money. Halloumi fries ordered by my husband were lovely though.
Next I ordered sea bass. Sea bass skin was soggy and crazy salty , the potatoes, green beans and sea bass were covered in so much salt š± I really love a good bit of salt but someone was just having a party with the rock salt. Save on the cost of rock salt in my main and you could have afforded an extra slither of break in my starterš Again the portion disappointing for Ā£20. My dad had steak and ale pie and it looked very good. My husband wasnāt impressed by the burger either and said it was really basic.
We went to the pant yr ochain a few weeks ago and had the BEST meal. I donāt think this place is part of the brunning and price chain surely?? It has gone downhill in quality and value.
Waitress and waitress were friendly and pleasant though
Shame: I think Iāll stick to the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were discussing this yesterday, we've NEVER had a bad experience at a B&P pub and The Cross Foxes yet again didn't fail us. Went in for Christmas dinner, which was beautiful, you really can't fault the food and I had a pint of Razor Back ale, whilst Linda had a Slingsby rhubarb gin and tonic - again the drinks are top notch. Coffee was good later too š Been to The Cross Foxes numerous times over the years, it's a great little pub with loads of charm & comfort, staff are always polite, friendly & attentive. Parking can sometimes be tricky as it's a unique location, but visit in daylight or summer months and you can revel in the views, the running river below, the bridge & generally, the ambiance will always attract you back again. I've said for years, B&P pubs would make the perfect local pubs but The Cross Foxes, along with our other local-ish choices are probably best left as a special treat rather than a daily or...
