Well done to the current occupiers and their staff for moving this pub forward! For too long it had been seen as rather drab and uninspiring. I'm sure that the recent renovations and the emphasis on maintaining cleanliness throughout the premises will be appreciated by many people. A large group of us turned up for a Christmas meal. The food and service was excellent. My partner was very content because, untypically, her special dietry requirements were catered for. To be fair this does take a bit of effort because in addition to being vegetarian and coeliac, she has other dietry restrictions. We also had a great night on New Years Eve. The talented band 'The Black Rat Effect' were playing and a generous buffet was provided at minimal cost. There is also a good selection of ales and the staff (another vitally important aspect) are competent and friendly. P.S. Look out for the occasional...

2 Yorkshire puddings very cold, and only rock hard roast potatoes, no other style of potatoes, of the veg in turines warmish.
3 The starters and deserts top marks.
Table lay out, not the best (cutlery no place mats ,and no condiments whatsoever until requested, then Limited. )

Probably in small groups for dinner everything might be different from...
Read moreWe had Sunday roasts, 2 gammon and 1 chicken. The food was nice enough, and enough of it. We didn't have a dessert, as there appeared to be only 4 "stodgy" choices, none of which appealed to us, and which we also felt was rather over-priced at £6.50 Unfortunately, our server looked as if she could do with a wash and some clean clothes without all food splatters on them, which was a bit off-putting. There were no actual menus...all food options had to be read off a scrolling display. This was rather annoying to try to read out to a partially sighted member of our group. Not good when they wanted a recap and you had to wait for the display to cycle again. I requested both gammon meals have the meat sliced into manageable sized pieces, as two of our party have hand problems. The kitchen did as requested, which made eating...
