Grove Golf Club — Restaurant in Wales

Went there for Sunday lunch today. Parking was fine huge free car park. First impressions of the restaurant were it looks a bit run down on the inside. Tables had paper place mats. Food was mostly awful, for my starter I had pate. I had 2 tiny bits of bread, a lump of pate and an old dry bit of salad. Massive waiting times between courses, kids were getting restless. They looked very understaffed. For my main I had beef. Couple of slices of beef were ok, 1 roast potato and what looked like an aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire pudding. Plenty of veg was brought out and gravy. Veg was ok and gravy was nice. Then desert I had chocolate fudge cake which was extremely dry and stale tasting. The ice cream was ok. Played for the first time today, course was in ok condition, greens good, fairways like a local unkept park, recently cut grass just left laying all over the place. It seems that members just come and go as they please without booking tee times, we booked our tee time and paid the green fees to find 3 guys rush in front of us (2 ball) at our time tee off, in front of them were 3x 4balls so as you can imagine we waited painfully for 9 holes until the 3 ball in front decided they'd had enough. Would I go back ? Probably not ... plenty of better kept and managed courses around for...

The service we received from Katrina and her team was excellent. They organised a wonderful wake, with great professionalism and care. The food was lovely and generously provided, and we were given a large reserved area to accommodate everyone comfortably.
