I went to Hickory’s last Thursday with my Mum and two close friends, and I can’t fault it at all. We were all so excited when this place opened a few months ago! We enjoyed every minute of our time here. It was the day after valentines day, so it was a special treat for us all.
I love a wide range of different cuisine, and Hickory’s has a wide variety of choices of food and drink.
It’s also the perfect place to go to just for a few drinks on special occasions, which my family and I did for Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve, we had Prosecco, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover a raspberry in the wine glass, which I find is very refreshing and goes really well with prosecco. 😂🍾
There’s something for everyone. I would recommend the southern fried chicken burger. I had that with spicy Louisiana sauce on top as I’ve always loved my food extra spicy, and fries to go with it. I love the Hickory’s ritual where they always put a little paper tub of sweet and salty popcorn on the table while we are waiting for our food. They.also always do this, even if you are just going for drinks.
All of the staff are very warm and friendly, and it’s always a very welcoming atmosphere.
For the dessert, I would absolutely recommend the froco (frozen custard) which I had never heard of before until having it here. It’s delicious, creamy like ice-cream and satisfyingly cooling and soothing after spicy food. However, it’s not too filling after an amazing meal. It’s a nice finishing touch.
I’ve also been here a few times before with my parents, where we have had equally awesome experiences.
One time, we went to celebrate my Dad’s birthday, and he got a birthday treat which was a doughnut with a lighted in door sparkler in the top, and the staff sung happy birthday to him.
Troy was really fun and engaging, and I love the fact that everyone always goes the extra mile to offer additional support as well, as Hannah offered to read the menu to me as I am visually impaired, which I happily accepted even though I was with my family. 😊
When you order froco for dessert, I love how it sometimes comes in a glass jar. I like it straight up! 😋 (On its own) If you want to, there’s also a good selection of toppings for it.
I hope to come...
Read moreOn Saturday 12th September, my wife, our two young children and I visited Hickory’s Smokehouse in Wrexham, and we were absolutely blown away by the entire experience from start to finish.
From the moment we walked through the door, it was clear that this is a restaurant that genuinely puts families first. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with plenty of thoughtful touches that made the evening stress-free for parents and fun for kids. The small play area kept our little ones entertained, and the dedicated movie theatre showing a variety of children’s films was a brilliant idea — something you rarely see in UK restaurants and a true lifesaver for families dining out.
The food itself was just as impressive. The menu offered a fantastic range of options, all cooked to perfection and bursting with flavour. Every dish we tried was delicious, and you could tell real care had gone into both the cooking and presentation. While the kids were happily occupied, the restaurant also catered brilliantly to adults, with multiple screens showing live sport, creating a lively yet relaxed atmosphere that had something for everyone.
But what really set Hickory’s apart for us was the outstanding service. Our server, Lexi, was attentive without being intrusive, and went above and beyond to make sure we felt looked after. She was polite, friendly, and genuinely kind — a true credit to the team. To top it off, the manager personally came over to our table and spent a good 5–10 minutes chatting with us. It wasn’t just about checking on our dining experience, but also about having a real, down-to-earth conversation. That kind of personal touch made us feel incredibly welcome, something I’ve rarely experienced in UK restaurants.
It’s the little details that make the biggest difference, and Hickory’s nailed every one of them. From the family-friendly setup to the delicious food, from the buzzing atmosphere to the exceptional service, they created the perfect Saturday night out for us in Wrexham.
Thank you to the whole team at Hickory’s Smokehouse. We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in Wrexham — and we’ll be recommending you to friends and family in...
Read moreHave been looking forward to trying the new Hickories in Wrexham as I’ve had good meals in the one they have in Shrewsbury. Went in for a Friday lunch and we were seated as normal by what appeared to be the manageress of the restaurant. Orders for drinks and food were taken after some time. We ordered BRISKET POPCORN BITES for starter and this actually came out before our drinks did which seemed odd. Unfortunately they seemed to have been overcooked so were bitter tasting and not very pleasant. The manageress then bought out the drinks and apologised and said for the delay with the drinks she would take them off the bill. She didn’t do this unfortunately as the two drinks we ordered were left on the bill. Main courses came out after quite a considerable amount of time of waiting. I had my usual which was EIGHT-HOUR SMOKED BEEF RIB and it appeared to be smaller than it usually is and when I cut into it the rib meat if was very firm and dry and not even warmed through. Previously I’ve had this and it’s melt in the mouth and delicious so this was extremely disappointing. My partner had THE BIRD & THE BEAST burger. Her bun tasted stale and dry but the rest of the burger was as it normally is. Our onion rings seemed to be overcooked and seemed to be very greasy which when we have had them before didn’t seem to be the case. After a disappointing lunch the bill was brought over and as i mentioned previously it still had the drinks on that the manageress had told us she was going to take off. We will give this new restaurant another go one day as this may have just...
