We visited the Llangeinor Arms for the first time last night, on the spur of the moment for an evening meal.
When we arrived, the lady behind the bar asked if we had booked, and I said no. She said it would be fine if we ordered right away, which was great. I asked where should we sit, as no direction was offered, and was told 'anywhere'.
We moved into the main pub area only then to be told it was all booked apart from one table next to the bar, which we took. So, not exactly 'anywhere'.
I ordered 'Luxury Nut Roast' with chips, and my partner ordered steak and ale pie with chips. The indifferent lady behind the bar took our order but really didn't seem to be that bothered. Whilst waiting for our meals, our drinks arrived, and we sat there amazed at the conversations we witnessed between customers and the bar lady!
One guy ordered his drinks and asked for two packets of crisps and was told 'we don't have any crisps'. What pub doesn't have any crisps?
Another guy asked if the Strongbow was dry and was greeted with a confused look; he repeated,'I just want to check if the Strongbow cider is dry?' The response from the lady behind the bar was,'I don't know!' with a big smile on her face. So the guy said, in that case, I'd better stick with...' (whatever it was.).
When our food arrived my 'Luxury Nut Roast' consisted of what looked like, and tasted like, a dried packet of nut roast mix, which had had hot water poured on it, mushed into a dish, and microwaved! It resembled a dish of Paxo stuffing that hadn't been baked. The chips were very overcooked, but oddly enough were rubbery, not crisp!
Before ordering, the lady behind the bar had said the nut roast was a bit dry, but I could have a sauce if I wanted. I asked what the sauce options were, thinking it might be a cranberry or peppercorn and was told 'tomato ketchup' lol.
My partner had steak and ale pie with peas and chips. The 'pie' consisted of a casserole dish of meat in gravy with a puff pastry lid served with the same brown rubbery chips.
I can honestly say, without doubt, this was the worst meal I've ever had in a pub! The complete and utter 'couldn't care less' attitude of the lady behind the bar only compounded the disappointment.
To be fair, the Llangeinor Arms is a beautiful pub, spotlessly clean, and is in an absolutely stunning location! Sadly, the terrible food and poor service let it down!
Truly appalling! It's definitely a first and...
Read moreI returned to this charming eatery to find it under new ownership. What a delight. The instant my Wife and I walked into the bar cum restaurant we were greated by a pleasant young man who paid compliment to my dress. Never a bad thing, and a great start to what was to be a thoroughly great evening.
The staff were prompt, efficient and extremely polite and made light work of taking my order which was delivered to the letter. The food was of the highest order, well presented, piping hot and plentiful. The wait of just over twenty minutes from the order taken was well worth it that's for certain. The dessert menu, although slightly limited was nevertheless sufficient to tempt me into a mixture of ice-creams dressed with some rather fanciful and indulgent treats.
Because of my suspicions with regards to some of the less favourable reviews on this place which simply did not fit my own experiences I took some time to not only examine the cleanliness, but also ask other patrons who were, to use their own words, 'not computer savvy, and unlikely to know how to leave a review,' what their opinion on the food was. The reply was a resounding endorsement of both the food and staff.
The toilet facilities were condemned by one 'critic.' I question the motive here because I've known this place for decades and it is as clean now as it was when I first frequented. This leads me to believe that the negative and false comment was contrived out of spite. Google, you really should allow the owners to remove this falsity.
In summary the Llangeinor Arms is definitely a place to confidently go to if you want good food, good atmosphere and good service. There is ample parking and also thought given to disabled patronage. The fact it now has a new owner who appears more than eager to take on board comments from customers means this place is sure to thrive for many years to come, and for one will get my custom for as many years as it has done in the past.
A well deserved five stars from myself, my Wife and the thirty or so other patrons who were as happy as I was. I would stress that the Llangeinor Arms is under new ownership and therefore negative posts older than two or three months should be ignored as defunct. I wish the new owners and staff good luck in their future endeavours and will support them as a customer...
Read moreVery bad customer service. The male manager here is so incredibly rude and puts this beautiful location to shame. I called to prepay for my fathers Sunday lunch this Father’s Day, I’m in Canada and wanted to surprise my dad that I had paid for his lunch, he has cancer and has been feeling very unwell, but the manager was very impatient and told me he’s too busy for this and hang up the phone on me. He literally and simply hung up, the line was clear and in no way was the line disconnected, he just refused to let me do this for my dad because he didn’t want to take the few minutes it would take for me to pay over the phone. The worst customer service that I have ever experienced, and if he treats customers like this, then I really feel for his staff. I will never go back here again, there are lots of lovely restaurants around the area. I have never left a bad review for anything before, but since my dad has cancer and I’m not able to be there this Father’s Day, the harsh impatience and abrupt “I have no time for this” and hanging up the phone is extremely...
