My partner Craig left a review regarding the dissapointing Sunday lunch we had last Sunday. The management commented and as I am unable to reply to that I would like to clear a few things up.
Firstly you said that we was asked on two occasions if everything was OK and we said we was enjoying our meals and that we didn't indicate any dissatisfaction. It is correct that we had staff check, the first one was before we'd even eaten a mouthful and the second no one said they was enjoying it I just asked for more gravy. This was brought quickly but it was one tiny jug of the luke warm granual gravy you serve.
We wasn't going to complain we was just going to put it down to experience and not return as other than heating up the food more there was nothing you could have done to change it because clearly this is just what you offer.
When you asked my partner as he went to pay if everything was OK and he gave feedback you commented saying no one else had complained so clearly you only wanted postive feedback.
Personally I think charging nearly £73 pound (no discount given so you must have been thinking of someone else who complained that day) for 2 beef dinners consisting of two thin slices of fatty chewy beef. 1 belly pork dinner which was cut roulade style and so thin it probably equated to one slice of pork. With no crackling (which is what it is advertised as) rock hard empty Yorkshire puddings, mushed up roast potatoes, two soggy carrots, two bowls of peas with a couple of tiny florets of broccoli, a side of cauliflower cheese costing £2.99 ( 3 florets of cauliflower and a tiny bit of watery cheese in the bottom of the ramekin) with luke warm watery granual gravy which the granuals hadn't even dissolved and three diet cokes. Oh and the shell of a garlic clove on my dinner. Isn't what I consider to be a good quality Sunday lunch. We don't want to go out and find fault, in fact quite the opposite. We would prefer to pay extra and had a good standard of food and enjoy our time out. However this is not what we received and I think to ask for feedback then say no one else has complained and then lie and say you discounted our bill is...

My partner and I are regular customers at Maenllwyd Inn Rudry, but unfortunately our visit on 15/09/2025 has put us off from returning anytime soon due to the incredibly rude and dismissive behavior from the manager.
We had booked a table online for 9pm through their website, and were looking forward to taking advantage of their "two meals for £20" voucher offer that was advertised as being valid Monday 15th through Friday 19th September. However, upon arriving at 9pm for our reservation, we were immediately confronted by the manager who rudely informed us that the voucher could not be used because it was after 9pm, despite there being no time restriction stated in the offer.
The manager's tone was extremely condescending as he told us to "be quick ordering" because it was late. We felt rushed and uncomfortable from the moment we stepped inside. When I politely pointed out that the voucher did not stipulate any time limitations, only the valid date range, the manager was completely unwilling to listen or be reasonable about honoring the advertised offer we had made our plans around.
As paying customers who have frequented this restaurant many times, we were appalled by the lack of customer service and outright rudeness demonstrated by the management. What should have been an enjoyable evening was completely ruined by being spoken down to and having the voucher offer invalidated for an arbitrary reason not listed in the terms.
I cannot recommend this restaurant to others based on our most recent experience. The management needs to learn how to properly treat paying customers with basic politeness and respect, and honor the offers they advertise instead of creating rules on the spot to avoid honoring them. We will not be returning until signficant changes are made in customer...
Read moreReally pleased to have found such a nice, dog-friendly pub within our local lockdown area! We booked a table online with our dog mentioned in the notes section, which was happily accommodated.
We came on a Sunday not fancying a traditional roast and were pleased to find they still offer plenty of alternative choices. The food was amazing, and far better than standard pun grub. We had a sharing platter to begin with, which had crispy squid, lamb kofta, garlic flatbread, hummus and chicken goujons. All of the items tasted wonderful and the squid and chicken were perfectly crisp.
I had the Cajun chicken burger which was absolutely MASSIVE and such good value for money. The burger was super crispy again, but not at all dry. It came with a generous helping of fries and some onion rings. I was really impressed and would definitely order again. My partner orders the special hunters chicken which has an additional gammon slice in it, and he finished the whole thing off.
For dessert I was happy to see they do mini puddings with a hot drink, which is perfect after a large main. I opted for a mini cheesecake and cappuccino, both of which I enjoyed. My partner had the sundae, which also didn't touch the sides! Our bill for 3 courses, a massive G&T and two soft drinks came under £60 and for the quality and size of portions was incredibly reasonable.
Our dog was welcomed and not once did we feel awkward having him there. The staff were really friendly and quick to serve us. All Covid measures were followed and aside from visors and masks it felt like a very normal visit.
We are 100% going to return, both on a Saturday evening to sample more of the full menu, and on a Sunday because the roasts coming past us...
