Visited here for the first time this evening (24th March) Restaurant fairly quiet as it was early evening. Food orders either at the bar or Haven app, we opted for bar ordering. We ordered Katsu Chicken Curry and Fish & Chips. Food came out quickly, but.... Katsu Chicken was tiny and tasted a bit dry, good job my son wasn't that hungry because chicken was soo small. Fish was also very small and batter was overcooked, but didn't taste too bad. There were quite a few chips, but they were only luke warm so I sent the meal back, it was returned in around 2 mins with fresher/hotter chips. Peas were forgotten so had to ask for them to be brought out. I fancied a fried egg with the fish, but they had run out. I also asked for a peppercorn sauce, it tasted good, but again was just luke warm. Overall a disappointing meal, but staff were friendly and quick to respond.

Very quiet in July. Service took 30 minutes which wasn’t too bad. Average food but slightly high prices. Good deal of two main meals for £20 though. Paid £4.25 for a side of onion rings, and received 5 of them which isn’t great. However, food was hot and fresh, and the servers were pleasant. It is also clean, though a few tables were sticky. There is a dog area just inside the door of the restaurant, or they can be taken outside. Totalled £88 for all the meals in the picture plus 5 drinks. Lovely view across the sea.

Absolutely awful. Went for breakfast yesterday at 8am. There are no opening times on the door so we didn't know what time it opened but a member of staff came and unlocked the door and let us in. We sat at a table and went up to the bar to order. A very rude member of staff (I think it was the manager) came over with the member of staff that had left us in in the first place and impolitely told us we couldn't be in there as they aren't open. I said sorry we didn't know as there are no opening times on the door. He proceeds to point at a small A4 sized poster next to the bar (nowhere near the entrance) and with attitude said the opening times are there. We gave them the benefit of the doubt tonight and went for an evening meal. It was awful. The table was sticky. I requested a cloth to wipe it down and was told someone would come over to do it. 20 minutes later and nobody had been over. So we had to ask a second time. Bare in mind there was only 2 other tables occupied at the time so hardly busy. We ordered food and drinks. On the way back to the table my drink fell out of my hand onto the floor. I went to inform them and was handed some tissue to wipe it up. I didn't mind cleaning the mess but it needed a mop not tissue so the floor was now sticky along with their tables. The bar needed a good wipe down too. Spilled drinks all over it. We waited half an hour for our food. We ordered a burger from the kids menu for my 6 year old. It's the smallest burger I've ever seen. No bigger than a ritzy cracker. I didn't even know you could get buns that big. My daughter had spaghetti bolognese. She wasted most of it. The pasta was overcooked and tasted watery. My partner had the mixed grill. The meat tasted burnt and the chips were cold so he wasted most of his. We'd ordered peppercorn sauce to go with it and they forgot it. I went over to request it and she went to get it. Waited 5 minutes at the bar for it to be told they're making it now so it was obviously forgotten about when they made the food. Went to sit back down. The sauce came out 10 minutes layer when We'd finished our food so that was a complete waste of money. I had a burger with fries. The fries were stone cold. Really don't bother going here. Slow service, unclean and...

Awful experience at the Mash and Barrel while staying at Haven New Quay. The food was inedible — my lasagne was cold and sloppy with soggy lettuce for a “salad”, and even the chips were dry and chalky. The kids’ meal came without the beans it was meant to have; when they eventually brought some, they were so dried out they wouldn’t even come out of the pot.

The outdoor tables were filthy, covered in dirty plates and glasses with crows and seagulls eating leftovers — not cleared for over two hours while staff walked past doing nothing.

When I politely asked for a refund, most staff were helpful and apologetic. However, Anna, who is the Head of Food and Beverage, was incredibly rude — she interrupted me to defend the beans, then turned her back on me mid-conversation and refused to come back when I asked to speak to her again.

I’ve worked in customer service myself, so I know I was polite and calm throughout. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone — shocking food, no basic cleanliness, and an awful attitude from the person who’s supposed to be...

We were guests at the Haven park on which this restaurant resides and decided to eat here one night. 2 adults, 1 child.

The restaurant was empty save for staff.

Attempted to use the Haven Serve app to browse the menu and order food, only to have an error thrown up during checkout.

Instead ordered at the bar, served by Sue. As lovely as Sue was, she appeared very new and untrained in her role as bar back, unsure of where items were on the POS system, unsure of how to operate drinks machines and of drink measurements/ingredients. Whilst this in itself is excusable, what was striking was the lack of support available to Sue, despite the restaurant and bar being otherwise empty.

Our food arrived in less time taken to successfully order, however was for the most part inedible. One pasta dish was overcooked to the point of mush, and everything else was bland beyond belief.

We spent over £40 for 2 main meals and a childs meal, each with a drink. Not unheard of in the current climate, but certainly not reflected in the...
