Been here in the past about 5 months and food and service was amazing we even left a ÂŁ20 tip we were that impressed. Went back today and all I can say it was like a different place. Rang 11.30am to see if they had any tables for the day for 2 people, they did at 2pm! Me and my partner arrived at about 10 to 2, took a seat in the bar area with a drink where we waited 40 minutes to be taken to our seatâŚwe got to our seat and it was a small cramped back table next to the kitchen which had clearly been put together last minute, I know this as I seen 2 of the bar staff pushing a table through the back â discreetlyâ. We were not happy about being sat here especially after waiting 40 minutes!! So we decided to go sit outside as it was a nice sunny day! Baring in mind we ordered our food about 10 minutes after we arrived my partners starter arrived about 5 minutes after we sat outside, he said that was nice. Our mains then arrived we both had a chicken lunch each, wow! All I can say is the chicken is like something Iv never seen, the texture was like raw chicken but it was cooked??? Very very bizarre, Iâm 8 months pregnant so didnât want to risk eating it even though the âchickenâ on both of our plates was the same! At this point of after being there for an hour already I was going to just eat the vegetables on the plate but as I was about to tuck into the cauliflower cheese all I could see was small pieces of foil throughout it!!!!! At that point Iâd had enough! Sat on a rickety outside bench with wasps flying around i wanted to leave! We said we would pay for the drinks we had and the starter and without hesitation we were given then bill with a sorry excuse for an apology and no offer for a reduction on the bill after all the hassle! We have raved about this place after our first visit and decided to treat ourself out one last time before our baby arrives and this is what we get! NOT GOOD ENOUGH!
Last mention the older lady at the bar so rude towards the youngest bar staff, looked as if sheâd not long started or was on âtrainingâ but if I was spoken to like that in work I would be walking out! Would...
Read moreI rarely leave bad reviews, but the sheer arrogance and unprofessionalism at this restaurant deserve to be called out. I ordered the fried chicken, which arrived with soggy, pale batter that looked more like a head of cauliflower than anything crispy or edible.
The chips? Stale and clearly not fresh. We overheard someone else complaining about them at another table. The chefâs excuse (which we could hear clearly) was that he was going to phone the potato merchant because the potatoes werenât good â yet he still knowingly served them? That alone says everything. (The phrase âa bad workman blames his toolsâ springs to mind.)
When I raised the issue with the manager, her response was to argue â loudly, in front of the entire restaurant. No apology, no accountability. Apparently, the chicken was âcookedâ because theyâd probed it, and others had eaten it without complaint, so that was enough justification to dismiss me. She insisted we pay for half the dish I couldnât even eat half of (I had one mouthful!). Then she never returned to explain the outcome â just quietly added the charge to the bill anyway.
This wasnât a minor disagreement. This was an embarrassingly unprofessional handling of a very reasonable complaint. The starters were decent and others in my party didnât complain â we werenât out to get anything for free. But the food I was served was inedible and frankly not fit to be brought to the table, and the managerâs attitude was disgraceful.
I wouldnât return if the meal was free. Poor food, worse attitude. Spend your...
Read moreSuperb imaginative cuisine from a talented chef with faultless service in a relaxed family atmosphere. The small plates were delicious, beautifully thought out and presented. The vegan/vegetarian experience is truly exceptional with many different and interesting choices. It seems to me that at least as much effort has gone into the non-meat dishes as the others. The service, delivering all those small plates to a full dining room in under two hours, is remarkable, because, on this 'Small plates and open mic night', by nine o'clock the chef Rob emerges to host and perform the first songs. Many of the diners then perform themselves to a high standard, making this a most...
