Had lunch here today with family. Nice enough bars and atmosphere. We got seated in their restaurant and it was nice. Confidence was high and we had researched this pub and hooked our trip out today into a visit specifically to it The staff were helpful and our order was taken quickly and drinks provided quickly enough. But the food took quite some time to arrive (30+ minutes). When it arrived there was quite a bit of difference between the quality of some of the orders. Steaks were good, substantial and seasoned well. But the fish and chips / scampi and chips were not the best at all. I had the fish and chips (pictured and that is a small oval plate... don't be fooled by the dimensions... check scale against the fork). It was a small piece and slightly over done as well. I would have expected way more food for the price as well as a decent tartare or equivalent sauce. Chips though we're excellent but again... too few. I have had fish and chips up and down the UK and this one was definitely the smallest serving in a long while (even adding in takeaways). Go for the steaks. Cooked to order and done well. 4* for steaks but 2 of us left today having 2.5* food experience.

We had our wedding reception at Nantyffin Cider Mill and it was the most beautiful day! Chloe and Meg helped us to plan everything in the year leading up to the day, providing help with the vision we had for decor, food options, and generally being a great support in the planning process. Every call we had with them calmed our nerves about the day. On the day, Chloe, Meg and the rest of the Nantyffin team were amazing - nothing was too much trouble and they made sure everything ran smoothly. The marquee was decorated with a mixture of homemade and C&M events decor and was just how we wanted it. The food was stunning and we’ve had so many comments about how good it was including for those with allergies. Chloe & Meg also maked sure we had all the drinks we wanted on tap and ensured we always had a drink in hand! They helped with little surprises for one of the brides, setting up a piñata halfway through the night and packed us up a snack box to take to our hotel! We would recommend Nantyffin and C&M to anyone looking for a wedding venue in Abergavenny! Photos by Kim Williams Photography

I highly recommend a Sunday lunch at the Nantyffin, especially in December as there is roast turkey & Christmas pudding on the menu. The food is absolutely delicious, plentiful & cooked to perfection. All meats are slow roasted, so they just melt in your mouth. I had the turkey, & can honestly say it's the best I've had in a long time. The staff are lovely, very accommodating & cheery. It's a very busy & bustling place, but nothing is too much trouble. I encourage everyone to sample the delights of Nantyffin, but advise booking, as it's full to the rafters on a sunday. Just be mindful that it's always very cold in the restaurant as it's a stone building, wear something warm.

The roast beef was absolutely topnotch and very reasonably priced. However, a note to the managers/owners: the ordering and serving of the food and drink was utterly shambolic.

The woman who opened the door to the three groups that had arrived early for a 12 o'clock lunch looked sullen and didn't see fit to greet the customers at the door.

When we got to the table, there was no wine list. It was only once it became clear that the staff couldn't remember enough about the wines to answer our questions about which country each wine was from that we were given the mini chalkboard wine list from the main bar. Our requirements weren't difficult, but difficult to achieve without a list.

We ordered one farmhouse pate starter, two roast beef mains and one roast lamb. The roast beef, as noted above, was excellent, all three of them; we never got the roast lamb.

In fact, the main course was to our table so quickly that we didn't get the pate starter, either.

We did get the wine, but it arrived at our table after the food did, and it was the wrong wine. So, the lovely Argentinian Malbec that we finally got was being poured a good five minutes after the meal had been served, rather than five to ten minutes before.

A lovely meal marred by subpar service that could easily be fixed by some clarity as to who is responsible for serving...

Me and the 2 kids came in at around 8.15pm to be told that there'd be around a half-hour wait for the food. We hesitated a bit but then decided to stay since we were already there and didn't fancy driving all the way back to Crickhowell. No one came to hand us a menu, so I eventually fetched one from the bar and we chose what we wanted to eat. I tried to make eye contact but the waitress was very busy. I overheard her saying to people at a neighbouring table that they only had 3 chefs in the kitchen and were apparently caught out that it was so busy (it was Bank Holiday Sunday...!) When I finally got her attention to tell her that we were ready to order she said, just a minute, I'll get the manager. He took another little while to arrive, only to tell us that they couldn't take our order for another 10 minutes (he didn't specify why?) so I said, well, how long would we have to wait for our food after they take the order and he said, another 30-45mins. At this point we left - we'd been in the place for half an hour and I had two young, hungry children with me. Very disappointed. If they can't handle serving people, fine, but to have us sit there for that long only to tell us they couldn't really see to us...

As soon as we walked in we weren’t greeted despite waiters walking past us so we were just stood near the door wondering where to go. We approached a waitress clearing tables after being stood there quite a while and she went to ask someone else if it was okay for us to come in (even thought I’d already rang to ask if it would be ok and booked a table and let them know this) we both ordered pork belly and mash which was quite nice but you had to pay an extra £3.50 for some veg to go with it. When the veg was brought to us the broccoli was quite soggy and turned up in a boiling hot dish at the end of the table so when I picked it up I burnt my hand as the waitress failed to tell me it had either just come out of the oven or microwave. No one came back to check on us and she already walked away before asking if we required any extra sauces etc. We also asked a member of staff for the wifi as we are visiting the area and wanted to plan our day and had no signal. All we got was ‘we don’t have it’ and another member of staff walking past said it isn’t for the public. Overall, overpriced and the staff need training. I don’t think it’s their fault as they seemed fairly young and they need to be trained on...
