Railway Hotel — Restaurant in Wales

I'd love to say it was amazing, but for me I really was let down with the food. My party loved theirs but 1 oval bowl of veg for 6 people was insufficient. My dinner arrived barely warm, I waited for someone to come over, and eventually it was taken to the kitchen to be re warmed by my partner, no apology about poultry being cold and the gravy congealed, no sorry for that at all, would have been nice if they said as a gesture we will only charge half, or anything, it was handed back, with no word no apology from the waitress, and when hubby paid the bill we didn't get any reduction, or an apology. I've always supported the Railway with each new owner, and until today we've been very impressed, I was given a starter off Menu which was lovely and I thanked them, but no apology for a cold roast chicken dinner, and having to ask twice for extra veg I'm sorry but that's really poor customer service. Despite being busy and seemingly only one waitress on duty she did an excellent job. Prompt, friendly and efficient. The food was excellent, I had a lunch time steak, a smaller portion accurately described and cooked to my request well with home made chips and some peas. The kids had burgers and meatballs/pasta and were equally impressed. It was reasonably priced and toilets clean etc.

The railway hotel is not far from main tourist routes but a welcome change from the cr*p generally offerred at the service stations. So if you are nearby do yourself a favour and give it a go. I don't think you will be...

Great stopover on our Motorhome tour of south & west Wales. Very welcoming staff & new Chef Lee (2 weeks in) is really making his mark. I chose the ‘Railway Poulet’ & my wife had the vegetarian option of ‘Glamorgan Sausages’ we also had a plate of lovely vegetables & potato Dauphinois to go with the veggie option & HANDMADE chips to go with the chicken dish along with creamed leeks.
