After driving to Pen Y Fan from Newport and climbing the mountain in wind and rain my friend and I were soaked to the bone and looked on line for a pub that does both grub at 3pm on a Saturday and was dog friendly… we found this little gem called The Red Cow Inn! We called ahead and the lady was sooooo lovely and saved us a table as we said we would be half hour… The outside of the pub is sooooo traditional, such a delight to see some old British pubs are still thriving rather than being torn down! The inside didn’t disappoint either! Welcoming staff immediately at the door… A roaring fire in the background, along with regular patrons dotted around the bar, it was beautifully buzzing! Got two cold pints of Madri with change from a tenner… amazing traditional home cooked food options it was like taking a step back in time when everything on a menu was appealing and full of proper British “pub grub”! I had chicken curry half chips half rice and it came with warm bread..The chicken reminded me of when my mama made curry and it was all “stringy” yum yum. My friend had chicken in whisky sauce and we both devoured the meals like it was our last! We ordered 2 sausages for the dog and that wasn’t a problem at all x They were HUGE lol. (Mac says thanks! Woof!) FYI the chips are to die for!!!!! They were the proper cut potatoes deep fried but even I can’t make them like that!!! Amazing!!! Whilst eating we were asked how are meals were (outstanding and fresh!) as soon as our plates were empty they were cleared with a smile… 😊 There was a young sweet girl as well going around the pub clearing and wiping tables constantly… Unfortunately we had to be somewhere else at 6 and our table was rebooked or we would’ve stayed and just sat by the fire… On leaving the young man who took the cash payment was delightful and we left the change it was more than well deserved… but it’s not about that, it’s about knowing that there are these little gems of British pubs still existing even if you have to drive a little to get there! I can’t wait to return to the Red Cow Inn as we climb mountains down that area very frequently… I’ve told all my friends… and can’t wait to return… PLEASE go to this pub.. it’s truly a special place. Xxxx Thanks… love Sally and David x from gloomy, miserable...
Read moreBeen coming here with family and friends for years. In a general rule, the Gammon and Steak are very good. However, the crown and glory is the superb chips. I have never had such good chips before. They are gorgeous. The staff are always lovely and friendly. However, the same cannot be said about the owner. My partner and I attended the Red Cow on Monday. The car park was very busy, yet we saw a space at the top of the car park. There was a plastic box halfway in the space. We thought the box had fallen over from a pile of trash that was next to the fence, so my partner moved the boxes and we used the space. When we finished our meal we came out to find a huge white BMW had parked right behind our car. I went into the pub and asked if it was anybody in there, to no avail. I came outside and asked a man next to the car if it was his car to which he agreed. His demeanour was surly, rude, and unfriendly. He informed me that it was his space and I was not to be parked there. I apologised, informing him that I didn’t realise it was not for public parking. He couldn’t have cared less. I asked him if he could reverse his car so I could get out. He reversed as little as humanly possible, so I found it difficult to navigate out. I eventually managed to squeeze out, but was left feeling pretty disgusted at the manner in which I had been treated so poorly by the owner. My partner and I will not be returning to this establishment. We will take our...
