Lovely location in the heart of Eryri. You can arrive by car up through narrow winding roads until you reach the car park and station building, but the best way to arrive is by travelling through the Welsh countryside from Porthmadog by one of the steam trains that travels via Minffordd station up to Tan Y Bwlch. This train, a steam locomotive travels along the Cob out of Porthmadog crossing main roads, over bridges, through a tunnel and up to Tan Y Bwlch. Best to book tickets online and in advance as trains can be quiet busy in the summer months and sell out quickly at peak times. Tan Y Bwlch has a cafe with indoor and outdoor seating, a play area for children and several footpaths to walk in to the woods. There are toilet facilities, small gift shop and hot and cold food and drinks readily available at reasonable cost and credit cards and cash are accepted. There are information boards alongside the tracks detailing the history of Tan Y Bwlch and the couple who worked there in the early to Middle 1900s, information on the steam locomotives that have served the line over the years and several memorials to read and benches to sit on and relax. The company are always looking for volunteers to maintain the railway and it is well worth a visit.

One of my favourite places to get a coffee because they have filter coffee as well as the Italian styles. The cakes are decent and the prices are not eye-watering. There are some nice paths through the woodland (the Meirionnydd rainforest is part of the larger, vitally important, Celtic (or Atlantic) temperate rainforest of Britain and Ireland) and of course, steam trains. It's reachable by car, bike or on foot. The bus stops a 20-minute walk away, or you could catch the steam train from Porthmadog. Dogs are welcome

We went to Tan Y Bwlch station cafe for tea & cake on afternoon. It was quiet as no trains in. Lovely little cafe run by volunteers. Tea & cake was well served, reasonablely priced & tasted just right. Good toilet facilities & plenty of car parking. Station is very scenic & well cared for by volunteers. All in all well worth stopping off for.

Sadly, not good when we arrived. The cafe's published opening times were until 5:30pm. There was a person inside, we were 2 more hungry people. Whilst we ate, there were 7 more people looking to eat and despite this, the staff were desperate to close up and had shut the kitchen at 15:30, saying that if it was quiet, they shut early. The cafe is not likely to ever have more than 4 people in it at a time so I'd say they were pretty busy. Food that was available was what it was - cold miserable sausage roll. A shame as the location is ideal. The owner needs to change the staff and get some people with a decent attitude working...

Took some friends here today and I was honestly ashamed. The scone was like a rock cake and the teas and coffees were overpriced and tasted awful. When I complained about the scone I was fobbed off with the response "well it was freshly baked this morning!" Come on-really? Who are you kidding? In my honest opinion these people would be out of business if it wasn't for the steady stream of train visitors. A very poor effort. Definitely wont be returning and definitely cannot recommend this little 'rip off the tourists cafe'. Im a local by the way, not that that...
