I had found The Angel Inn Salem by chance when searching for locations to the west of the Brecon Beacons. On approaching the village of Salem,it's so quiet and peaceful, I couldn't believe there would be a hotel/inn here. On first approaching the Angel Inn, it looks wonderful. Well-presented from the outside in a lovely location. After being shown to our room by the lovely owner, we were amazed by the standard of finish and the level of detail in the rooms. The rooms were spotlessly clean, and the rooms were finished to a high detail. No expense was spared when they were selecting the beds and pillows. As a long-term back pain sufferer, I had the best night's sleep in a long time. As with most locations throughout the UK, the Angel Inn was just coming out of lockdown, but the kitchen had been supplying takeaway food for the past few weeks. Tired from travelling, we decided to eat at the Angel Inn that night and we were not disappointed. If I lived a lot closer, I'd be ordering takeaway from them myself on a regular basis. The slow roasted belly pork in homemade BBQ sauce was to die for. We also ate there the second of our two nights and again, we were not disappointed. Breakfasts were cooked fresh to order in the mornings and were fantastic. Local produce cooked perfectly. Given the remote location and the sheer number of walk-in's post COVID lockdown, it is obvious the Angel Inn has a great reputation. One that is rightly deserved. On the subject of COVID, social distancing rules were well advertised and adhered to. A one-way system was in place and the staff wore the appropriate protection. Hand sanitisation stations were located at several places throughout the whole property (bar and accommodation). I would highly recommend the Salem Inn for a weekend break away or to use a base if visiting South Wales for a longer time. The service provided by the owners, her daughers and the rest of the staff...

Myself and a small party(inc baby) enjoyed a nice relaxed lunch. The staff are all lovely, very pleasant and attentive but not over bearing. We were shown to our table, which with the restaurant not being to busy on this day was perfect. In the corner and with plenty of room for the pram. There were other babies and children, but it made a nice atmosphere, it wasnt lots of tantrums and dangerous children running into waitresses carrying food. Carvery is a new experience for me so it was an interesting experience tbh. I found it ok, just strange, I guess some people enjoy seeing their meat being cut in front of them and piling their plates so high they cant be carried. The food was well cooked, full of flavour and it all looked fresh. The parsnips were my favourite but it was all very nice, and for a reasonable £9.99 each. We didnt opt for starters and only one in my party chose a dessert that was thoroughly enjoyed. The premises look lovely and suits the welsh countryside location. Overall it was a great lunch, there was only one problem, the fact that the Angel Inn is advertised as child friendly yet has no baby changing facilities so we had to change the baby in the cold car after our meal.
NOT IDEAL IN JANUARY
Get the baby changing facilities and I would consider a 5...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent for food here a few weeks ago for a friend's birthday, the food was okay however one of the group waited for almost 20 minutes for their food after we had all received ours. The service was shocking, the one waitress was so miserable didn't smile once looked like she didn't want to be there atall and also dropped food on one of the members of the party. The other waitress came out with the wrong food for another member of the party and then came back and took it away. When we got our starters we had waited an hour for, one of the member had raw chicken, which they did say we didn't have to pay for. Some of the food was nice but if you're thinking of going for a meal I suggest booking early as the waiting time is...
