Enjoyed the food, locale and atmosphere so much that we came back a second evening. The two main pub rooms have a traditional pub feel, with two side rooms set up more like restaurants, and a couple of lovely pub garden areas outside. Parking gets cramped as the pub fills up, and a lot of people book tables ahead though we didn't wait to be seated... other than in line at the bar. Two local ales on tap - one a mellow IPA, the other a stronger brew. After a day's hiking in the hills, we really appreciated a good plate of tasty pub food at accessible prices. The mains come with good chunky chips/ new potatoes, edible salad and great sauces. The first evening's flavoursome rump steak with pepper sauce, lasagne, burger, IPA and carafe of water came to £45. Medium rare likely to be fully cooked by the time you eat it but it was still a good steak. The second evening's chicken stilton pie, side of veg, lasagne, burger, lemon meringue sundae, IPA and water came to £43. The boys liked the look of each other's meals so much, they swapped choices the second evening. Good routes locally to walk off a lunch or whet the appetite for dinner, including signposted along the river opposite the pub, through the popular Golden Grove campsite. We stopped off for refreshments mid-hike a few years ago and really enjoyed it but worth checking opening hours as not...
Read moreI’d avoid this place like the plague if I were you! Firstly, they open when they feel like it! I called several times to try and book a table and no one ever answers the phone. I only got an answer from them on the pure off chance! Secondly, the place is absolutely filthy, looks like it’s never been cleaned in years, so GOD knows what the kitchens going to be like, it’s very dark and dingy and in my honest opinion, the owners should pack it in as they are clearly not cut out for the hospitality trade anymore. Having spoken to a few locals, they don’t even use the pub for this...
Read moreLovely old building full of history, military, and ancestry to the fore! It will test your driving ability to get there but it’s worth it!!Beautiful river passes the other side of the road and a narrow bridge. Good selection of beers and wines all well kept. It’s all on one level but being ancient difficult for wheelchairs. Car park would be filled during busy periods and tight elsewhere! The Dragon has a feeling of a local hub which is good to meet and talk with the local people! Yes I’ll go again and yes I...
