Well I used to go there a few years ago. Back then there was more variety on the menu and the food was so much better. The service slowed down as it took almost an hour to serve my table and we were told to hurry up with ordering.
My mother booked a table a few weeks ago for 7. When we got there we didnt expect to be seperated on two tables. These were the tables for around 4-5 people. It was too hard to merge the table and one side hardly talked due to the seperation.
The baristas were acting up, being very slow. I can understand work fatigue but this was just being lazy. The two baristas would talk to eachother instead of making drinks and one table had to wait around twenty minutes for a drink. When we were ordering they didn't seem to care about what we wanted in our drinks and randomly put them in there. There was one waiter who was male, who was being very friendly to all the guests and letting everyone take their time ordering and would engage with the guests but on the other hand there was a waitress who did nothing but seem intimidating, rude and she was unpleasant to be around, she was also one of the baristas.
We sat down on our "table" and as soon as we did this waitress was in our faces about ordering before this group of people who had been here longer. I rushed my decisions and so did my family. I'm not ashamed to say I enjoyed my starter, it was a bit spicy but everything was good. No mess ups here.
When we had our main course we were greeted by amazing effort and little to no effort of some plates. My brother and I ordered the Dyffryn burger which actually made us nauseous and made me feel light headed. The smell was high and gammy. My brothers meat was grey, actual grey. No colour at all. None of it tasted like beef. The bacon was like a rubbery substance which meant it was unfrozen incorrectly and tasted like actual rubber too! With my fathers meal he had order a medium steak, which looked ok. He wasn't served with the sides he ordered or the garnish. After he started eating it he realised it was raw, not medium. He finished it and there was literally blood on the plate. The steak wasn't set long enough or it wasnt cooked right. My step brother had a horrible effort with the pie. They rolled out puff pastry and cooked it for a bit. Now a lot of restaurants do this but the pastry was also raw. My uncle and mother ordered curry, the vegetables were raw and they only had curry sauces, not curry. My uncle had a bad stomach waking up this morning.
The desserts were pretty good. The brownies were dry though and were around 5-6 hours old. I ordered the honeycomb and white chocolate cheesecake. We had ice cream on the side which was quite chewy but at least it was better than the main course.
The waiter agreed to let us have the desserts free. I noticed we were charged for 4 desserts instead of all of them off. My parents went up to the baristas and started to complain about it. It took them around thirty minutes to decide to ask whats going on. They came back and said "we'll take the burgers off and two desserts." It was so pathetic honestly. I would honestly never go there again until it is like...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMaybe its just me, or maybe a mature member of staff here was having an off day? But this gentleman was in his 40s and should have known better! We went to the Dyffryn, got a table and thought we would order drinks first (a coffee and a pot of tea), we wanted to take our time. The mature gemtleman served me and pulled a face when I just asked for drinks. I got 'distain' as feedback from his body language, rolling eyes and facial grimace that he did not approve and expected me to promptly order food as well. Well that put me off ordering food after after the first round of drinks (and it remained our one & only round after the service from him). He took my payment and turned around walking away without a word leaving me standing at the bar with empty cup and saucer, full tea pot, milk, spoons and sugar, plus my overflowing coffee which he had spilled over the bar (I am sure it was overfilled on purpose). There was no tray, nothing for me to carry it all! I had to hunt down a very helpful young waitress (5 stars to her) who guided me to the tray stack (hidden around the bar) and I then carried the drinks back to the table. I WILL NOT GO HERE AGAIN, AND IT JUST STANK OF ENTITLEMENT. He came across as having an entitled attitude, maybe because I did not immediately order food maybe? Possibly, they feel you should order food immediately (thats how it came across, I'm an ex-teacher and I do pick on body language and other such signals quite quickly sometimes)? I have been told the same type of tale by several other local people, that found an 'attitude' there. Other than that, their prices are OK, the pub is lovely and there is a play park for kids. I would give 4 or 5 stars for everything else. Pitty about the really bad attitude I encountered. I was quite polite and did not deserve this treatment. I will go to the Bryncoch Inn next time (just a mile away) and have a service I can count on with more...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCalled here for Sunday lunch as the evening meals we had there previously have always been beautiful & I must admit the Sunday lunch was just as nice. The meat , potatoes ( 1 roast & 2 New), 1 Yorkshire, 1 stuffing ball and 1 roast parsnip were brought on a plate to you then peas, carrots & cauliflower cheese were brought in taurines for you to help yourself. The choice of meats were Beef, Turkey or leg of lamb (vegetarian option is also available) the beef was outstanding š perfectly cooked which melted in my mouth along with proper homemade real gravy which just made the lunch so much nicer. The reason I've only given 4 stars is even though the meal on a whole was beautiful, it was very very small. Only 1 small taurine that had a small bit of 3 veg in it between 5 of us which was no where near enough & when we asked for more we were told they were all out of them. We had children with us so asked for extra Yorkshires (We were willing to pay extra) but again we're told they were all out. We did book I'm advance so they were expecting a party of 5 of us so therefore I don't feel the Ā£68 We paid for 2 adults & 3 children was worth the money especially as 1 of the children only had meat, a stuffing ball and Yorkshires. So as value for money goes it wasn't worth it on this occasion but all in all the food itself...
