I’m afraid my review is not good. I made a booking for a table of 7 earlier in the afternoon. Upon arrival I noticed a board outside the entrance stating that on some days of the week it was two main courses for the price of one. That sounded like a good deal. Sat at our table and quite promptly a young waitress appeared and asked what we would like to drink. So far so good. We received the drinks and waited for the menus to brought to the table. We must have waited ten minutes. I then asked the waitress and was informed that the menu was in the other room on a board against the wall. This should have been pointed out when the drinks were brought ti the table. Two of our party have mobility problems so another person with us took a photograph of the main course board. This board must have been about five feet tall. The top half explaining the ‘rules’ of qualification for the two for one deal. You had to buy a drink, alcoholic or soft drink, and if there was an odd number in your party, one would have to pay the full price. There were about five to six boards around the bar area showing starters, mains, desserts, champagne offers, etc. This was too much to view on a smart phone, so each of our party had to physically look for themselves. I was shocked at the prices. Fish & chips & mushy peas £18 - Steak £30 - Burger £18. However, when you divide by two because of the offer, then the price was pretty good. Unfortunately, I don’t think the offer of two for one applied to everyday of the week. At those advertised prices, I expected the food to be top notch. It wasn’t. I had belly pork with medallions of pork and pulled pork, with chips and salad! Never had it with salad before and rarely with chips. Mashed potato perhaps would be a better option. Three of our meals were overcooked, including mine. We had two vegetarians in our group and the choice was very limited to a couple of fish dishes. If they had been vegan, there would not have been anything suitable. We were told that if we had told them sooner, they could have got something in for us! One of our party had a one year old child and when we asked a waitress if they had baby changing facilities, she replied that she didn’t know. Didn’t offer to go and find out. The young lady behind the bar was very good but unfortunately the two very young waitresses were inexperienced and uninformed. Perhaps we caught them on a bad night but none of us will be...
Read moreThe Ffrwd has been our food “local” for quite a few years, and we’ve had many fabulous meals there. It’s our go-to for get togethers with family and friends (they cope very well with parties) as well as couple dining. The food is freshly prepared on the premises from “real” fresh ingredients, not prepackaged or part cooked stuff that arrives in the back of a van like 95% (at least) of other places these days, and I know they are very picky over the quality of the ingredients. I have noticed that they seem to spend a lot of time on pre-prep earlier in the day before they open at teatime, always a sign of freshness and authenticity. Because ingredients are based on what is available daily, the menu (which by the way is huuuge!) varies (and is on two or three long blackboards - how else can you cope with a frequently varying menu) but with a baseline so you always know what to expect if you are not adventurous. If you are, try the fish menu which is particularly varied and extensive, something very seldom seen anywhere else. Yes they don’t serve tap water - because apparently they operate on well water, and are not allowed to serve it “fresh” from the tap. Not unusual in this part of Wales, I know, I’ve owned two local properties running perfectly satisfactorily off well water. Yes they don’t accept credit cards, and charge £2.50 for debit cards on the Monday and Tuesday 2 for 1 nights. At their prices on those days I’m not surprised they can’t afford the outrageous charges banks levy for simple and cheap automated services. We travel around quite a bit and in our experience you pay an awful lot more elsewhere for food of this quality, and when you do it is surrounded by pomp and circumstance and not the warmth and comfort of the Ffrwd. Read moreLovely. Fresh cooked and delicious with a little.to.much to eat. Delicious roast potatoes and more than enough meat. The staff were very friendly although didn't have the information to answer questions about the menu. The extra gravy jug is a nice touch and serving the platter too. I can see that this place is being pushed in a modern contemporary direction and based 8n the experience Iwould say it is being done successfully and they are not trying to run before they can walk.
Two minor constructive criticisms. Allow customers to choose either a starter or a dessert as the two course choice for Sunday lunch is the only option think dietary needs if its less profitable cost some cheaper starters for the Sunday roast menu. Please.please upgrade the stuffing you serve because it was flavourless and like dry cardboard.
What you offer from such a small kitchen is a great achievement and your nearby competitor is miles behind you and your staff lovely. I am.so.pleased to have found you. You are superb and delicious and I just wanted to say thank you for being you. So for all.concerned
If you want good food its got to be Ffrwd. You will no doubtedly go from...
