Took our parents out when they were visiting and had heard good reviews, so booked here for a table of 7 on an early Saturday evening. All staff were super friendly, polite, and attentive to the table . The wait time for food was average and overall it was a nice experience. The decor is beautiful and the ambience was nice for a Saturday night. The food, however, I was slightly disappointed in steaks, they were overcooked, but you could taste it was a quality bit of meat which was gutting ,however £27 for a fillet is great and £7-9 for starters so price wise good for these. Someone did have lasagne and said it was nice but came with nothing, no salad, no chips, garlic bread, nothing, which was a little odd for £14 but again tasted nice, my son had pizza and it was fresh , hot and tasty for £13. A couple of people had the tiramisu and loved it, and the pistachio profiteroles were lush .Wine by the bottle was not too badly priced, but soft drinks and lime and soda were massively overpriced .I would go again and re try it ,as overall was good, just a few minor issues .Failing that, I would happily drop in and sit outside with a glass off blush and a hot pizza .Nice to have a more upmarket restaurant open again in the local area.

I wholeheartedly recommend The Gate pub, a delightful restaurant that exceeded our expectations during our evening out in South Wales. Having searched for a charming venue to spend quality time with family, we fortuitously stumbled upon this gem. Although it was nearly 9 PM on a Sunday, we held little hope that the kitchen would still be open. To our pleasant surprise, not only was the kitchen operational, but the service we received was nothing short of extraordinary. The culinary offerings were remarkable, showcasing a blend of flavors that left us thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere was wonderfully inviting, allowing us to enjoy our meal at a leisurely pace without any sense of urgency. With our party being the only guests at that hour, the staff demonstrated exceptional professionalism, coupled with a genuine friendliness that made our experience even more enjoyable. In summary, The Gate pub is a splendid choice for anyone seeking a memorable dining experience in South Wales. Its delightful cuisine, outstanding service, and warm ambiance make it a must-visit destination.

Lovely food with great service. Staff were attentive and happy to make recommendations. My only complaint is that some menu items were very overpriced. The price across many menu items is not competitive in any way. Tomato Chicken main course was £17, this was a thin chicken breast with some salad and a couple of potatoes cut in halves. Nice restaurant for a special occasion but very expensive for the small portions, not good value for money. Will most likely return in the future as the experience was enjoyable.

Just had a meal with my wife's family and her parents, as we were a large group ( ten people) we were asked to give credit or debit card details incase we didn't turn up. Initially everything was fine I had meatballs to start , which were OK nothing special a bit cold and a bit chewy and not really very tasty. I had ordered the lasagne for my main course , I must say having had the meatballs and having to order the meals prior to our sitting , I was slightly suspicious that the food wasn't freshly cooked. When my meal arrived it was obvious my lasagne had been cooked before and then re heated, I went up to the bar and had a quiet word with the gentleman at the bar Connor, I explained that the lasagne was not cooked properly and had been reheated probably in a microwave. He assured me everything was cooked fresh and that I should go and speak to our waitress , which I did. The waitress Amelia ? Confirmed that it was cooked fresh this morning, ( therefore reheated ) I asked to please remove my meal from the bill which she did. The service by the staff was very good but the quality of the food was definitely poor, most in our party had problems with the main course from cold pizzas, Luke warm ravioli, the steak was tough. I'm really disappointed it's not cheap to dine out and to have that quality of food served to you is simply not acceptable. How hard is it to cook lasagne fresh particularly when three of the group you are with order the same meal . It takes about 5o mins max to cook a lasagne from scratch, again three of our party had ravioli again it takes 20 mins. Do they actually have a chef or just someone to warm up the food. Will never eat at the Gate again, I'm not prepared to pay to eat a very poor meal when I can cook it...

I so desperately wanted to love this place. Went as a family of four and I can't fault the atmosphere or the service as these were impeccable. Starters. Meatballs with bread. Flavourless meatballs and sauce and dry bread. Good portion. Scallops. Assured these were flavoursome but a very tiny portion. Fitto Misto. Nice portion size but muscles fried to almost nothing, whitebait was very very fishy like it was old frozen. Calamari and prawns fried lovely but all under seasoned and bland. Garlic bread was dry like a cardboard wheel. Mains. Bolognese Penne. Undercooked dry pasta and tasteless sauce. Nice portion size. Rib eye. Its very hard to get rib eye wrong so was cooked nicely but served with frozen chips that were very large so dry in the middle. Not the biggest portion for the £32 price tag. Carbonara. Extremely salty meat so I took this out but was still very salty. Nice sauce but absolutely not authentic Carbonara as it had cream in it and definitely not fresh pasta. Good portion but very pricey for a bowl of pasta. Desserts. Pistachio profiteroles. Looked amazing and absolutely huge portion. These were devoured. Chocolate souffle. Absolutely not a souffle. More of a chocolate melt pudding but was lovely but tiny. For this and 5 soft drink and 3 alcoholic drinks the bill was almost £200. Can't say we will.never go back but if we do our expectations will be lower and our...
