From arrival, first impressions are fairly pleasant and seems welcoming. This doesn't continue inside however. We were taken to a table and seated, however the table was incredibly sticky to the point the napkins needed peeling off!
The front of house staff need some further training. A young lad was fairly friendly but very inexperienced, being unable to ascertain what each dish actually was and didn't seem to understand that if a plate is incorrect, it should be returned to the kitchen immediately to be rectified, not for the server to go chat with the chef first. The bar lady was incredibly slow and also not very professional at all, in appearance or attitude. Empty glasses were also not cleared away even when 2lots of further drinks had been ordered and brought over. Please also note, that Pepsi Max is served on draft as if you order Coke, you will get a tiny mixer bottle! The elder male member of staff, presumably management, was quite abrupt; didn't respond well to being questioned about why our drinks took so long to arrive (4bottles took 10minutes and the place was quiet!) and he also seemed genuinely annoyed that I asked for salad with my burger instead of coleslaw as I am allergic to mayonnaise as he stated the burger had salad on it! A leaf of lettuce is not salad...
The food was fairly nice and cooked well although there was a small bone in the Ultimate Burger which hurt my tooth. We were informed that this would be passed on to their butcher/supplier.
The empty plates took a LONG time to be cleaned away after the bar lady attempted to half way through our meal before we had all finished. The desserts were mediocre, the cheesecake and lemon meringue were fairly flavourless, did not taste freshly homemade and do not warrant the price at all.
All in all, a reasonable experience but will not be returning. For £100 plus, I...
Read moreOrdered the halloumi burger with skin on fries.
The skin-on fries were frozen fries which was sad to see. They had absorbed some of the oil they were cooked in. The roll the burger was served in was extremely dry. The halloumi was perfect. Effort was made on presentation where it's perhaps the least important thing to get right. Save money buy using plates instead of slates and the savings could be allocated to sourcing potatoes and better bread.
I had a nice pint of ale, there was a reasonable choice. Staff didn't appear to be too knowledgeable of their ales.
One member of staff was unfriendly, the ladies who served us were fantastic.
The location is perfect, the beer garden is big, clean and maintained and finished to a very good standard, as is the interior. Appearances are clearly very important which was good to see.
Sadly the food and some of the service did not live up to the pricing or our expectations. All the foundations for a good pub are there as the look, the facilities and the finish are superb, but care for the products (knowledge of their beers and the quality of the food) were sorely lacking.
Edit: From the response it appears the person who was a little bit abrupt and didn't know their beers was the bar manager who replied to this review below.
A note, take constructive criticism on board or don;t. Given the poor attitude on the day, we wouldn;t have expected that complaining directly would have been productive. A very odd man, bordering on the unpleasant and that was after I commented that it's a beautiful day. The younger ladies serving were fine, it was the gentleman at the bar who seemed to...
Read moreStopped today for Sunday Lunch as have wanted to call in everytime i pass as it looks a lovely pub ...yes the pub is lovely and the staff were very pleasant but the Sunday Lunch if you can cal it a Sunday lunch was awful for £9.95 i would expect to be full but with two very small quarters of roast potatoes a small spoonfull of julien of carrots one small florette of Broccoli and two small leaves of Kale which was not cooked enough andd a yorkshire pud i had a nut roast which looked lovely but was mush inside and barely edible. My Mum had a dinner without meat and unfortunately does not like carrots or broccoli then had my roasts and i managed to get her to taste the nut roast so she had something to go with h.er potatores . My drink tasted of carbonated water there was hardly a taste of coke / pepsi . I should have complained really but did not want to end up upsetting my Mother and on paying my Mother was charged the full price for a no meat veg Dinner !! . For such a lovely looking pub the Sunday lunch was a disaster such a shame .
