Really wanted to like this restaurant as there aren't many foody places to eat in the area. Initial impression was good as the place was busy, it's got a nice atmosphere and apart from the seventies spider plants everywhere it's tastefully decorated with nice lighting levels. Unfortunately we were sat at the bar for nearly an hour waiting to order. I asked a member of staff if we could order only to be told that it was 'our turn' next! There seems to be just one person who although very charming seems to take it upon herself to take all the orders for the whole establishment. So just after an hour in the restaurant we sat down and again were left alone. About 20 minutes later we got some bread. Starters were quite nice. Mains were ok but for the price bracket, average. We had the chefs taster plate for desert. It looked stunning but was sickly at best...the pink grapefruit sorbet was the highlight. The rest was tasteless goo made with too much gelatine. Overall it was a disappointment. I can see what they are trying to do but are failing on the basics of hospitality. Maybe on other days there are more staff who can take orders etc and someone else making the desert, but who knows. Overall apart from desert the food was OK. The service was shocking but that wasn't the fault of the numerous quite young waitresses. More a lack of people to take orders and get the whole...
ย ย ย Read moreSo having been on numerous occasions under the previous ownership, this was my first time since the new owners took over. Whilst I appreciate these are strange times we now live in embracing the changes with covid19, we entered the pub and were immediately stopped by notices at the bar requesting we wait to be seated so couldn't proceed to sit down. One of the staff a pleasant young man asked had we booked? I replied we had and that we were early as we wanted a drink first before eating, found this a bit awkward as our guests were unable to sit anywhere or get a drink until my booking was confirmed. Eventually got a drink and we were shown to our table. The menu was not extensive but still has plenty of choice. I had the beetroot and feta fritters with tzatziki which were delicious followed by sea bass fillets served with chorizo and haricot beans with a tomato sauce, I asked if I could swap the gnocchi out for halloumi fries the waitress checked and said no problem at all. The fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I followed with a slice of lovely gooey sticky toffee pudding with icecream. A nice bottle of NZ sauvignon with our meal and a port at the end of it. Overall a delightful experience and pleasant staff plus a not overly expensive meal. Will go back...
ย ย ย Read moreWe had Sunday lunch at the Kinmel Arms in St. George today. We were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary and there is no better place to celebrate.
I had the roast beef which came with beautiful home made Yorkshire puddings, roast parsnip, roast potatoes, swede mash, red cabbage, stuffing and gravy. I also had a dish of cauliflower cheese. My husband had the pork with the same veg and Yorkshire pudding. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. We followed with the chocolate amaretti pudding. The best pudding we've both ever tasted. Our compliments go out to the chef. Empty plates from us. The service was excellent, the lady that looked after us was wonderful and so friendly and helpful. The ambience is as I expected from such a wonderful old building. It's a beautiful building with comfy seats and beautiful decor. Although the building is old it's still bright and airy. We will definitely be going back as soon as we can. I must also say that the delicious food was not overpriced. It's excellent value for money. I highly recommend the Kinmel Arms. I wish I has taken more photos. I will add an edit at a later date. I was too busy enjoying my...
