The pub has recently been taken over by new owners. We used to go to this pub on a regular basis, but unfortunately, we will be finding a different local pub to go to now. We visited for the first time with the new owners yesterday evening, we will definitely not be returning for the following reasons: The atmosphere was terrible, alot quieter than what it used to be. It was extremely cold to sit and eat. -The service was awful, we had to go up to the bar whenever we wanted drinks/food. Some of our food was stone cold, we had to go up to the bar to send it back. The food came back microwaved. -Between the first person having their meal, to the last person having their meal. The first person had already finished their food. -We had to ask 4 times for our side dishes, which went with some of the main meals. -We waited an 1hr 20minutes for our food. (We were only a table of 6) -No one asked if everything was OK or if we wanted any thing else (e.g sauces, steak knife for Gammon..) -The meal prices had gone up by approximately ÂŁ6 from what it was with the previous owners.
Sorry to say, but what was a thriving, excellent local pub has now been...
Read moreWe stopped at the Red Lion today for Sunday lunch. We are on a canal boat holiday and first called The Coach and Horses to book a table but being on the canal, they naturally were booked up.
The Red Lion was a nice 10 minute walk from where we moored near the bridge at Llangynidr and it was well worth the walk. The staff were all really friendly, welcoming and attentive from the moment we arrived.
We had two courses (main and dessert) and the food was superb. Fresh, perfectly cooked and great portions whilst not being excessive/wasteful.
While the food was clearly cooked fresh to order, we didn't have to wait very long for it. To top it all off, the value for 4 of us to have 2 courses and a drink each was great - a scratch over ÂŁ60.
I'd thoroughly recommend it as a quieter alternative to some of the...
Read moreThe Red Lion is an absolute gem and a focal point of community life in the village. Great food, always a good selection of beers and friendly staff. Cosy open fires in the winter and a chilled beer garden in the summer. Youâre always guaranteed a warm welcome from Ady, Sarah and the team. With regular quizzes, band nights, beer nights and themed nights, whatâs not to love? In fact, my friends and I love it so much, we use âto get Red Lionedâ as a verb to mean having a great time! Not only that, the owners of the pubs have been brilliant through the pandemic and have done loads of charity work - they are a credit to the local community. If youâre in the Llangynidr area and fancy a bite or a pint at a traditional and friendly pub, I cannot recommend the Red Lion enough - a class pub and a class...
