Dog Friendly?

Firstly, The Sun Inn isn't in Pwllheli, it's almost in Aberdaron, so please take the Doggie Pubs app with a large pinch of salt. Everywhere on the Llyn peninsula seems to have a postal address of Pwllheli. Secondly, most of the customers and staff of the pub, including the owner, need to learn how to park. There would have been enough spaces if about six cars hadn't taken two spaces each. Finally, we reached the pub on a hot evening and asked if we could eat outside with our dog. The answer was "No, we're not serving food outside and we're full inside." The only dogs we saw were outside where only drinks were served. Strange for a Dog Friendly Pub. I wouldn't have minded if we had turned up on spec, but I had phoned the pub two days earlier to book a table. I had been told that we couldn't book an outside table, but the man didn't say we couldn't eat outside! I had made it clear to him that we would be bringing our well behaved dog. So.... we never found out about the food. Clearly the owners have so many customers that they can afford to be complacent about enquiries. We ended up at a chip shop...

NEVER AGAIN.My first visit here they stated they were no longer serving food but you could clearly see chef in kitchen. Gave them another chance we were stuck in what felt like ' under the stairs', continually disturbed with people coming in standing back right up to the table. Food was mediocre, steak was grizzly tasteless. In the area again as its 'local stuck again in Front of a plank of wood m people kept standing on dogs. The curry was poor meat with curry powder pretty tasteless. Visited at 5 oclock to get a table as you can't book, Table free in the window the landlord came over and stuck a reserved sign on it offered the plank of wood by the through fare, told him dogs were stood on, he said this is booked, I said last time we came you told us we couldn't book, he stated locals can. It's in the middle...

A bizarre visit to this lovely pub where I was expecting a great post lockdown experience. I chose to eat pheasanr and gammon pie... Expecting a rich gravy and tasty meat. Instead I was presented with thin pale sauce and chunks of pink meat floating in it under a circle of overcooked puff pastry. I actually complained.. First time for years.. And was offered a reduction in the bill... 'but I haven't eaten it' I said. A waiter (pleasant, polite,) suggested I choose something else 'of the same price'.... I chose salmon fishcakes and received one with a small salad.. The starter portion. Very strange. I ate it and we left. At least they got the bill right.. One fish and chips and a starter of one...

What a great little local pub. Proper hearty home cooked food served by very friendly people. Good selection of beers on tap, cosy atmosphere with many locals as well as tourists, quite busy for a Friday lunchtime. Food was fantastic, decent sized portions, nice a hot and didn't feel rushed at all. Best pub meal we have had within 30 miles. Highly recommend. (Scampi n chips & Steak baguette with onions, followed by bread n butter pudding with custard and warm waffle with ice cream and toffee sauce, Mmmmm)

Proper pub with proper home made pub food, great beers and very friendly and helpful staff. We went for a walk on Hell's Mouth beach to relive the childhood memories of coming here with my parents many many years ago and its fantastic to see the Sun Inn is still as good as I remember. Also it was good to see all the VW Campers were still big out there now I have one too.

We popped by for lunch and fortunately there was a table available. As I absolutely love blue cheese, I went for the mushrooms and blue cheese ciabatta and my husband had the Welsh rarebit - both were delicious along with the meals that our children had. Very friendly staff with great service. Great kids and veggie options.
